Class: RS Sophomore

Ht/Wt: 6-3/281

Position: Defensive Tackle

Hometown: Okinawa, Japan

Twitter: None

Thoughts: Gabe is one part of the Ahner brothers here on the Cardinal squad. Gabe saw some action against FIU last season and actually recorded a tackle in that game to cement his name forever in the UofL history books (hey, it’s more than I’ve ever done in collegiate athletics). Even though we are thin at the front seven positions I’m not sure where Gabe will fit in with the new defense. The first depth chart showed him at left end, along the line, but I wouldn’t be shocked to see him swap sides of the ball if the O-line gets hit with injuries. While I joke about what appears to be a never ending string of lineman through the countdown, we need all these guys to help get through the season. Either way, unless he goes crazy this summer, I wouldn’t imagine us seeing Gabe get significant minutes this season.

Sweet Tweet: No Twitter for Gabe, but I think it’s pretty cool that he and his brother are both playing D-1 ball together after coming over from Japan. I’m sure they had to step outside of their comfort zone to make the transition, which I self admittedly suck at.

You moved to a new country? I can’t move the toilet paper roll to feed from underneath.

You left friends/family? I don’t like leaving the couch.

You’re attending a new school? I don’t like going to a different grocery store.

In honor Ahner (see what I did there) of these fine young men I’m going to step out of my comfort zone and try something new. I’ve been holding a grudge for way to long, time to end this….

Dear Mike Deane,

The Year was 1998. You were coaching the University of Marquette as they played by beloved Louisville Cardinals. I watched with youthful enthusiasm in the corner of Freedom Hall as my Cardinals played well and seemed poised to take home the victory. Then it all came crashing down. I was just a young man, no, a child, who had to bear witness to your juvenile display of emotion after Wardle and your team snatched victory from my team. I saw the middle finger Mike, I saw you dancing, I saw you yelling, and it crushed me. I’ve held this hatred inside for far too long Mike Deane. As a Cardinal fan, as a man, I for…I forgiv….I forgive yo……NOPE. Too soon.
