#91 Trevon Young
Position: Defensive End
Hometown: Council Bluffs, IA
Thoughts: Trevon joins the Cardinal program from Iowa Western, a powerhouse JUCO that lead his ‘Reivers’ to an 11-1 record and helped the defense finish fifth in the country. Trevon, who was eager to get started was actually an early enrollee back in January and was actually driving to Louisville when news was breaking about Strong going to UT. Fortunately, Young stuck around and he appears to be making a big impact in the time he’s been here. Before the Spring game Petrino singled him out as being a player who has picked up the system very quickly and is turning into a great pass rusher. Listed as a Defensive end, and playing that position previously at Iowa Western, Young may battle Rankins and Dubose for PT, or could potentially slide out to a linebacker spot depending upon need. Due to injuries Trevon got some time at the WILL linebacker (weakside inside, also known as a bandit due to the responsibilities to drop into pass coverage) in the Spring game and played pretty well. Young has the size to compete immediately and should provide some good competition for the returning linemen.
Made it through spring ball healthy, and 10 times better than I came in. Success— Trevon Antonio Young (@TreYoung35) April 13, 2014
I always breathe a sigh of relief when we get through Spring practices without a major injury. I know we have some guys who are currently banged up, but considering in years past we've actually had some season ending injuries occur, I’ll take it. I’m glad Petrino has modified the routines because we all know Pitino just practiced them way to hard. (Throwbacks)
The practices Petrino runs are notorious for being extremely fast paced and given that he demands perfection, sets are usually run multiple times until they get everything right. With that said, I’m curious if most people would rather go through a week of practice with Petrino or Pitino? Neither would be fun, but I think I’m going Pitino. I may be worn out after seven grueling days, but at least I didn’t haul around 20lb of equipment and get my bell rung every damn day. Thoughts?
[P.S. Hell of a weekend by the Cardinal Nine. Played some great baseball and never trailed for a second. Can't wait to see them in the Supers]
