#79 Jamon Brown
Position: Offensive Tackle
Hometown: Louisville, KY (Product of Fern Creek High School)
Thoughts: While the offensive line doesn’t get much publicity and drives me up a wall when writing this countdown (you try and talk about offensive lineman for like 14 days in row) there is no better way to start it off this season than with Jamon Brown. Jamon has now started 26 games in row, 13 of them at right tackle back in 2012 and all 13 last year at left tackle. Brown will stay at left tackle and continue to provide protection for both the run game and the backside of Mr. Gardner (or whoever comes out of the summer as the #1 QB). Brown has made quite the name for himself while at Louisville and bought into the program back in 2011 when thre wasn’t much to write home about. I love seeing the local kids like Brown, Parker, Quick and others stay home and help build the national brand. You probably won’t see too many articles written on Brown during the season, but that just means he’s doing his job up front. Even that should bring a smile to Coach Klenakis’ face…
Thinkin of life!! And wat life will be like for me in a year from now!!— Jamon Brown (@NFLBOUND_jBrown) February 25, 2014
One can assume Mr. Brown is referencing his future as a professional football player. I did a little digging and currently a lot of "mock drafts" [everyone can laugh now] have Brown ranked in the 12-14 range for OT position. If this year’s draft is any indication, that would place him in the late 3rd Round to early 5th Round. Obviously he has a chance to improve on this, but being a 3rd Round pick is nothing to be upset about. I referenced this earlier in the countdown but I really like the Cards putting another 3-5 players in the league next year. I for one am hoping this becomes an annual tradition where we get to watch the draft each season and see ‘University of Louisville’ pop up more than a few times [insert Petrino recruiting comments below].
