During my lifetime, and since the 1940's and early 50's( when UK reigned supreme in college bball with F-ing Adolph)
U of L has always been an underdog.
Hell, we never got a #1 seed of all seed until T-Will's year. And that's after total dominance during the 80's!
Can we embrace the underdog? I think we can. We all want the underdog to win.
And we have-- we are the 7th most storied and decorated program of all-time--according to at least three national sources.
What does the underdog feel in their stomach-- it's always angst. Yet ck our record against UCLA, Duke, Michigan-- that's who we won our championships against.
We come up short vs. UK sometimes--well UK is ranked above us--but not in modern times since 1980. Ck the stats and facts in the NCAA games--the important ones.
What do underdogs have to do?-- grind it out, literally and figuratively.
We will will this game. We may win this game.
It is perhaps the most epic game since the Original Dream game in 1983--which we won, by the way. Have you heard?
It is the most epic because of many story lines...Sweet 16....national champ vs. pretenders...both mere Vegas pts apart.
This is the only state legislature that ordained a bball rivalry of this kind in the nation--because of that one game after 24 long years of them avoiding and frankly snubbing us.
Will we beat UK--I think so. I don't know so.
But I know this-- U of L has NEVER given up on any game. We play balls-out til the end.
I'm proud of that in and of itself.
I will be drinking Woodford Reserve and hoping for the best.
But I know this for sure
I love U of L.
