Barber buzzer-beater earns Spalding regular-season SLIAC Championship

Mike, thanks for giving me the nod to post this, I really appreciate it.

Saturday afternoon Spalding University senior Will Barber drilled a buzzer-beater from 60 feet to defeat Westminster College (Mo.) 69-66 at Derek Smith Gymnasium in downtown Louisville. The win earned SU their second consecutive St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) regular-season championship.

The Golden Eagles fell behind 42-26 at the half, and trailed by 18 points with 18:35 remaining. But SU slowly chipped away, eventually knotting the score at 66 with 40 seconds remaining. After a Spalding foul with 36.8 seconds left, Blue Jays guard Joe James turned the ball over on a shot clock violation, giving SU possession with .09 of a second remaining.

Then this happened: Barber game-winner.

Barber’s game-winner capped off a 20 point performance, 17 coming in the second half.
