Shoni Schimmel became just the fifth Louisville basketball player, and only the second women's baller, to breach the 2,000 point mark for her Cardinal career when she hit the milestone Wednesday night.
Schimmel, who is now second on the school's all-time scoring list behind Angel McCoughtry, finished with 15 points on her big night as U of L rolled over Houston, 81-62.
Men's players Darrell Griffith (2,333), DeJuan Wheat (2,183) and Pervis Ellison (2,143) are the only other members of the elite group.
Just want to thank the greatest fans ever and being able to share this special moment in my life!! I'm proud to be apart of greatness! #L1C4— shoni schimmel (@schimmel23) February 20, 2014
Schimmel added a team-high eight rebounds and three assists to help the Cards pull away from a Houston squad that has won just five games this season.
"When my kids and my grandkids ask me what it's like playing with Shoni Schimmel, I'm going to be like, ‘She was the best teammate I've ever had,'" said Louisville's Sara Hammond. "I'm honored to be her teammate, and I think it's a great night for her to get her 2,000th point."
Congrats to one of the best to ever do it in a Cardinal uniform.
