Based on the majority of national media comments during the Charlie Strong departure, I thought we were an irrelevant program. We were small time. We weren't Texas. So why does everyone out there feel the need to share their opinions on our new hire? What is the cause of it?
Is it sanctimony? Is it pure disbelief? Is it cynicism? Is it condescension, that they somehow know Petrino better than we do?
Or is it fear? Is it fear that this could actually work out? Are they afraid that a man could actually change that dramatically? Or that he hasn't changed but he'll still win and somehow his past behavior will be rewarded?
I don't have the answers. For what it's worth, Bobby has a lot to prove in that regard. A LOT. Every day. For as long as he's here, however long that might be.
But I guess I really just don't understand why anyone outside of Louisville cares. I mean, after all, it's just Louisville football, and as we've been told time and time again, we don't really matter. We're a basketball school.*
