Charlie Strong was an amazing head coach for the University of Louisville Football Cardinals. The progress achieved by the program during Strong's four years with the team was astronomical. I remember saying, "A bowl game in his second year would be amazing." A bowl game each of his four seasons? I never would have guessed that kind of success when Charlie first arrived. All of this said, I'm pissed. I know I shouldn't be pissed, but I am and I can't help it.
My rational self is telling me to be happy for Coach Charlie Strong on this "promotion" to one of the premier programs in the country. On the other hand, my U of L fanatic self is upset and angry over the decision made by Strong to leave the University. The manner in which he left, without alerting any of the players, makes me pissed. The things said by Strong last year after turning down the Tennessee job, are coming back to piss me off. All of these things are making me angry with Charlie Strong.
I realize that the job here at the University of Louisville as football coach is indeed a stepping stone, this is something I've come to terms with. I also realize the program will be perfectly fine for the upcoming season's with whomever Jurich decides to hire. Nonetheless, after all the things this fine institution has done for Strong, he decides to leave. He even told some of the players he would remain the coach here at Louisville just days before accepting his most recent offer. And these things piss me off. "My heart is with the University of Louisville", was said just a year ago by Charlie Strong. That statement has been proven false.
Lastly, I want to say thank you Charlie Strong for everything you've done for this University and this football program. You resurrected the program from arguably the worst it has ever been to the best it has ever been. For those things, I thank you, it was one hell of a ride. For taking the Texas job and leaving the way you did, I'm sure I'm not the only fan who can say, I'm pissed off.
