The time has come once again for us as Louisville fans. Someone else wants our coach. Someone with deep pockets, the fanciest sports car and the swanky private jet.
The University of Texas is, without a doubt, a very intriguing offer. A whole lot of money. A nice big backyard to recruit from. Some of the best facilities in the nation. A deeply devoted fan base. A television network that bears the name of the University. Sounds like heaven on earth for a football coach.
Proceed with caution.
Man to man, I need to chat with you Charlie. I don't have the opportunity to make nearly the amount of money you pay in taxes every check. To be honest, I don't know what it means to coach a major division 1 football program. But I know what it means to enter a job that has ASTRONOMICAL expectations and what it means to be able to build from nearly nothing.
Charlie, that is what we had before you. Next to nothing. And you have started building something in Louisville, KY. Something our city is proud of. Something I'm proud of.
Entering the head coaching position at the University of Texas carries with it exceedingly large expectations. That school is DESPERATE to matter again. You're a good coach, can you make that happen quickly enough? I don't know, that's for you to answer. And My god the burnt orange. (Really?)
The issue at hand here is simply this. Everything stated above about Texas, holds true to UofL, except the TV network (get on it Jurich ~). A whole lot of money. (You still make a TON of money here) A nice big backyard to recruit from. (Let's be honest, KY isn't great. But you have a pipeline to some VERY fertile ground) Some of the best facilities in the nation. (I would argue the best). A deeply devoted fan base. (Not as big, for sure, but willing to take on a bigger role). A wise man once told me that the grass isn't greener on the other side of the fence, it's greener where you choose to water it. Water the grass here my man. It's better to build something than be saddled with untold headaches of tradition to deal with. You're building something here. The foundation is laid, the walls are up, and we're getting ready to move in. If you build it, we will come. Keep building it here my man. Our grass is green and our fans are the best in the nation.
In all things. We have some less than awesome fans who will throw daggers at you. But know that we are all grateful for your accomplishments here so far. We wish you nothing but the best, hopefully here. Yet, if you must go, go knowing we'll be watching and chearing you on from a distance, unless you have the unfortunate circumstance of meeting the Cardinals in a football game. In that case, may God have mercy upon your soul.
Heaven is a place called Louisville. And Saint Peter wears Red. It's great to be a Card.
