A historical look at Louisville's 2014 football schedule

David Manning-USA TODAY Sports

The 2014 football schedule has been officially released. Some of the highlights include a Labor Day opener against Miami, a Thursday night (blackout?) game against defending National Champion Florida State, an October game against Clemson in Death Valley, and a November 22nd showdown against Notre Dame in South Bend.

As we enter into the ACC and a new era of Cardinal football, let's take a moment to look back and see exactly how we've fared against the teams on the schedule for 2014.

While Kentucky holds a 14-12 all-time series advantage, Louisville leads the modern series 12-8 (1994-present).

The Governor’s Cup was created in 1994 as the trophy for the winner of the Kentucky-Louisville game. Donated by The Kroger Company at a cost of $23,000, the Governor’s Cup stands 33 inches tall and weighs 110 pounds. The trophy’s base and upright columns are hand-milled black marble. The glass components are optic-grade crystal. All metal parts are 23-karat, gold-plated brass. The cup itself is made of pewter with a 23-karat gold-plated finish.

The Schnellenberger award was created in 2010 and has since been given to the MVP the Governor’s Cup game. It is named after the former Kentucky player and Louisville head coach, Howard Schnellenberger.
