My thoughts so far...

  • Louisville is really, really good. Issues that show up one week seem to be getting addressed. Mid-game corrections are effective, telling me that both the coaches are aware of issues as they come up and that players are willing to listen to their advice and implement it - both very healthy signs.
  • Our opponents are really, really bad. This does not negate point #1 at all, but makes it that much harder to prove. However, with each team we face there are lessons to learn and over the course of a season we will get to see how we'd perform against a well-rounded team. With EKU, we learned how we fare against a good run and run defense team. Against FIU we learned how we'd fare against a solid high school team.
  • I liked the adjustments made on our kicking. We had much better containment, and the kicking it into the end zone works well now that our guys are getting down in time, forcing them to take the knee and start at the 25.
  • We're showing a good mix of plays, keeping the opponent off-balance and leaving holes both for the run and still keeping the defense close enough that our receivers can run their routes.
  • Our yardage is really, really good. We're nearly tripling our opponents yardage (2.8-1). The only teams that are close to that are Oregon at 2.2 and Ohio State at 1.9.
