#26 Michael Dyer
Position: Running Back
Hometown: Little Rock, Ark
Thoughts: So news breaks YESTRDAY that Dyer is confirmed to be a part of the Louisville program and that he will wear.....wait for it.....#26. Welcome to the countdown Mr. Dyer. I won't go into to much depth as we've beat up on this story for the last few weeks. I can spout off stats from two years ago, go through his awards and accolades, talk about his past, etc. We've heard it all at this point. Here is the low down from my perspective...
Michael comes into the program with national attention attached to his new red and black duffle bag. Some of the attention is negative, and some positive. UofL may take a hit from some for taking a chance with Dyer, while others may show more respect to our rising program nationally. On the field is what I care about and Michael now becomes the 5th running back who is planning to see significant time for the Cards this year. Lets get this straight. Michael is a very talented running back, but he will have to earn playing time like everyone else. For those who think he puts on the first string helmet immediately, I've got two Doak Walker Award watch list finalists who might disagree. My biggest fear is chemistry at this point. There are only so many touches each week, and each player literally deserves 8-12 in my opinion. That doesn't leave to many passes for Teddy. I'm not in the locker room every week nor do I know the overall attitude of the team about this addition. What I do know is that I trust Charlie and I think this is a good move for the football program as well as this kids future. The other thing I know is that winning cures all. If the Cards have a successful season and pile on the points, the transition becomes that much easier. Welcome to the family Michael. Please take your seat and Mr. Bedford will be around shortly to punch your ticket. Fasten your seatbelt son. This train is rolling out.
Going to my old high school to shoot some basketball with some friends.Man this brings back a lot of memories— Michael Dyer (@Michael5dyer) January 29, 2011
Dyer's twitter account has been inactive for quite some time but I dug up this oldie from January 2011. The guy is going to go shoot some basketball. Besides Anthony Grant I doubt 15 people in the state of Alabama can even identify a basketball. He was destined to be at Louisville!
