Montrezl Harrell is having quite a time in Prague with Team USA. Since my last post on Harrell's perfect outing, Team USA has steam rolled through the first 2 games in Round 2 of the U19 World Championship Games.
Brazil vs USA
Trez again gained the start against Brazil. This contest was the closest of the tourney thus far. Only up 6 at the half, Team USA relied on great defense and hot shooting from Rasheed Suliamon (5-9) 3pt. to blow up the game with an 18-0 run outscoring Brazil by 15 in the 3rd quarter.
Trez chipped in a 17 solid minutes with 8 pts 1 rb and 1 block. Team USA forced 22 turnovers in route to a 91-66 win over Brazil.
Thoughts on the game:
Is it good to have a tougher game like tonight where you have to push through it rather than a relatively comfortable game?
It’s good to have a tough game like this one tonight, it shows you you’re going to have to fight through some adversity and have to come ready to play in every game.
What was the difference in the second half?
Our team just really picked it up; the team really got after it. Marcus (Smart) really energized the team on offense and defense, he was all over the place and really got the team going, got everyone fired up.
How important is it for this team to get turnovers get the offense in transition?
It’s very important for this because that’s how we get our points, that’s how we get going. We’re just a high-motor team, high-energy team, we can really confuse you and we’re really capable of doing things at the offensive end. We really get out and capitalize and that’s a bug part of our game.
USA v Australia
After what could be considered his "down game" Montrezl really stepped up his play against the Aussies. In his 5th start for the Team, Harrell chipped in 13 points and four boards and a block. The game was never in doubt as Team USA dominated the paint with a 55-20 halftime lead. Team USA cruised in the second half.
Not to disappoint, our man Trez got the Highlight of the Night with this transition Alley-OOP
The next game should be much more challenging as Team USA takes on an undefeated Serbia Team.
Billy D on Serbia
I watched them a little bit on film, I think clearly they are one of the better teams here and I think our guys understand and realize this is going to be a great challenge for our team going against them. We know we have a lot to get prepared for and we’re going against a team that has been together for awhile, plays really well together, really good defensively and really puts you into a lot of binds defensively.
7/3/13: USA v Serbia in 2:15 p.m. EDT
As always..Keep Trezin, and Go Cards!
