Thoughts: Alex Witcpalek (pronounced witch-paw-lick) is a walk-on at the safety position. I touched on the safeties yesterday with Barnes summary, and Alex falls into a similar situation. We are pretty deep in the secondary this season, and unfortunately for Alex he doesn't have another couple years of eligibility like Barnes. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Witcpalek sees the field this season, more than once. Some of our games should really play out into the lopsided contest that most predict. Charlie will not keep the first string offense or defense running plays deep into the fourth no matter how much some of us might like to see it. Look for Barnes, Witcpalek and Hogan to get some well deserved PT back in secondary as these situations come up.
No matter how indecent my golf play is..it feels good to go and call it work— Alex Witcpalek (@Awitcpalek) June 7, 2013
A few years ago I hung up the baseball/softball cleats and decided to really get more serious about my golf game. I played or practiced at least twice a week for about 3 months....and now a few years later, I still shoot about the same score I did when I was 16. What's the only obvious take away from all of this? I was the freakin man at 16!!
#40 Joshua Appleby
Hometown: Athens, Ala
Thoughts: Josh appeared in five games last season mixing in a little kicking and punting. If you read lasts years countdown I was pretty high on Josh and thought he had the skills to take over one of the specialist roles. When given the opportunities I thought he performed pretty well. Josh had two punts last year averaging 42 yards per kick and he also had 17 kickoffs with an average of 58 yards per kick. I think Wallace and Nakatani are going to battle it out for kicking duties, but Appleby might have a shot at taking on Johnson at punter. The problem thus far with all aspects of the kicking game is consistency with kicking the ball further than 40 yards down the field. Beyond 40 yards on field goals we we're bad, 3 for 8 bad. When punting we averaged 38 yards, with only 6 going over the 50 yard mark. And finally, kickoffs. We had an average kickoff of 60 yards. Last time I checked we needed 65 just to get it to the goal line. We didn't get burned a lot on special teams, but we should be getting more than 5 touchbacks for a whole season. I don't know why kickers get me so worked up, but I think I could type another 4 or 5 paragraphs about our specialists.
Lets start out with Appleby's kicking form. That plant leg is about 3 degrees to close to the ground....ok, now I'm just messing with you.
Sweet Tweet: No twitter for Josh right now. I was so frustrated that he didn't have a twitter account that I bet my next years salary he couldn't make a 57 yard field goal...
Damn you Aaron Rodgers!
