The Cardinal Countdown...53 days till kickoff

#53 Jake Smith

Class: RS Junior

Ht/Wt: 6-4/312

Position: Offensive Line

Hometown: Jacksonville, Ala

Twitter: NA

Thoughts: Jake has been a mainstay on the offensive line for the last couple seasons. Jake started all 12 regular season games last year at guard, continuing his starting streak including all 13 games as a redshirt freshman. Jake unfortunately did not start the Sugar Bowl due to being sick, ending his 25 game streak. While any common fan may expect Jake to be back at the guard position again this year, he has put in a strong showing at center, battling Day 54 and Day 68 respectively (That not how everyone refers to the players...? Well, that’s disappointing). The O-line is pretty deep this year so don't let all these position battles fool you. If Jake doesn't wind up pitching the ball back to Teddy, expect him to shift back over to his right guard position without a hitch.

Sweet Tweet: Smith himself doesn't appear to be on Twitter, but the following photo was taken and posted by the official UofL Football account, which makes me think even more the center job is his to lose.

Today is a special day for me. Wedding anniversary? Birthday? No, much more important. The last day of offensive linemen on the countdown. Yes, there is still one that needs to be posted from the 4th of July absence, but every day forward is something new. I love the big guys, I really do. But if anyone has ever tried to write 90+ player summaries over the course of 100 days, almost 18 straight days of offensive lineman wears you down. Trying to constantly BLOCK the other thoughts RUNNING through my head....BLOCKING my frustration as time PASSES me by. Trying to avoid SHIFTING my focus to other things. It's almost as if I'm an....offensive lineman. Crap.
