The American Athletic Conference launched its official website today and both Louisville and Rutgers have been included. For the 2013-14 academic year, The American will consist of Louisville, Cincinnati, Memphis, Rutgers, UConn, Temple, UCF, USF, Houston, and SMU. Louisville will depart for the ACC July 1st, 2014.
As many Louisville fans are aware, the beta version of the site that launched back in May made no mention of either school but did include future members East Carolina, Tulsa, Tulane and Navy. In an interview with CBS Sports, American commissioner Mike Aresco explained that UofL and Rutgers had been omitted because the conference wanted the website to "reflect the future of the new league". The omission of Louisville was widely considered to be a Digger-league move and lead to at least one angry Card Chronicle post.
Now that the conference has recognized UofL as a league member, it is time to get back to business and bring home some conference titles.
