The V Show today on 680 gave a good update on Gorgui Dieng. Apparently Will Perdue has worked out with several of the big men out in Los Angeles in preparation for the draft. Comparing Gorgui to Steve Adams, Jeff Withey, and Kelly Olynyk, Perdue said Gorgui has the most upside, and that Gorgui picked up the drills on the first try, where the other guys needed multiple times to catch on. Perdue thinks Gorgui will be the first drafted from that group, and was really impressed with Gorgui's maturity.
Also of note, Gorgui is currently nursing sprained ankle and is in a boot. Perdue said he was doing a lot of non-weight bearing exercises in the pool to get the ankle ready for team workouts in the next few weeks.
Perdue also felt like Gorgui would go higher than the mock drafts project him, somewhere in the 12-15 range. If Gorgui really does go ahead of Withey, Adams, and Olynyk, I would think he'd go lottery, but we'll just have to see. Either way, it's great to hear he is out of the "Late first, early second" category, and now a solid first-rounder.
