With all the obligatory celebration of the national championship going on it's easy to forget the 2013 Big East championship; a night that brought us to our lowest lows and highest highs of sport fandom. I think it's important to look back because this game really doesn't get the attention it deserves.
The following will probably be a signal of a fair weather fan but that big east championship game was only the 2nd time I had to turn a game off. I hate to admit it but it was just too hard for me to watch; especially considering how I had to go to a birthday celebration afterwards. I didn't want to be cranky so I turned off the TV and said something like, "We'll still get the national championship." My friends agreed and as I walked out of my apartment said something to the effect of "...it would have been nice to win the last real big east championship though..."
Of course being a sadist, I couldn't help but check the score on the way to the party. It still wasn't good news. When I finally got there I was surprised to see everyone in the corner watching the TV and cheering. My first thought was "...are there really that many Syracuse fans here?! In Louisville?!" I step up next to the group and witness what may be, in my opinion, one of the finest performances I've ever seen. Trez was just going off! I feel like if this wasn't a championship year (God it feels good to say that) we would still be talking about this performance with the thousand yard stare a legendary performance like that deserves. Trez and that game should already be discussed with likes of Kuric shutting down Freedom Hall.
The Trez NC dunk gifs just reminded me of how good it felt watching him almost singlehandedly dismantle Syracuse.
Just thought it was time for a reminder.
Side note: I also love the kids hustle. He had a put back in the tourney where immediately afterwards he flipped over another player and landed, hard, on his side. Did he just lay there like many would have? Nope, the kid got up and ran to the other side to play defense.
(Pre-apologies for the writing. This was done on my iPhone)
