I am writing this as a reminder that if Rick Pitino isn't the CC Man of the Year this year than something is horribly, horribly wrong with all of us.
It's April - eight months in advance of the 2013 CCMOY voting - so let's just real quick try to set some standards on what exactly it will take to knock RP off this perch to which he is mighty entitled.
1) Charlie Strong gets to a national championship game - Not enough. RP just won a NC game, and since football's NC game happens after the CCMOY voting period we won't know if we are looking at a NC winning team. If we do win that would set CCS up nicely for the 2014 CCMOY. ADVANTAGE RP
2) Teddy Bridgewater wins the Heisman - This is the most likely course that could bump RP, though only because of recency. If you take recency out of it, then you are left with the question - which do you want more, a national title or the Heisman trophy? And if you vote for the Heisman then I don't even know how to respond. Heisman would be great, sure, but it's not a program-wide award. What we most want here are national titles, as many as possible, as often as possible. Individual accolades are mere gravy. ADVANTAGE RP
These are the only two events I can imagine that would even begin to shake RP from the top rung. Of course my imagination is limited, and some others may have a differing view. And I'd like you to please express them now, and when December arrives, before you vote for a football coach or a quarterback, come back here and remember how freaking cool it feels to be national championship winners.
Thanks for your time and input.
