On ESPN.com, Dana O'Neil just posted an article that absolutely KILLS IT in describing the Duke game and the team's reaction to Kevin's injury. One passage in particular stood out:
...Louisville has built its brand on its toughness. The Cardinals are ruthless and relentless on defense. Together Siva, Smith, and Ware probably wouldn't tilt the scales at 400 pounds -- yet they play with an edge that intimidates opponents into submission.
It is one thing to be basketball tough.
To witness your teammate's bone protruding through his leg, to sob in the middle of a game and then somehow regroup, and not just play, but win going away, that almost corners the market on the word..."
And it made me think of that amazing video where Gorgui describes what toughness means to him:
Toughness is not, like... shoving people or stuff like that. Toughness is like 'Help your team win.' ...Toughness is like just 'My teammates are down, I help them up." ...People have a wrong idea about being tough.
And it all just reminds me, once again, how goddamn lucky we are to be Cardinals fans in the year 2013, with THIS team, THESE young men, THIS coach, THIS opportunity. GO CARDS.
