Every year I consider this thought experiment. It usually takes the form of, "How large a check would I be willing to write to insure Louisville wins it all?" - but this seems a bit sketchy as it implies somehow rigging the game. So perhaps a better way to think of it is, "If you were offered either a) Louisville wins the NC, or b) a check for X amount, how large would the check need to be for you to choose b?"
However, you might not such a crass person so easily influenced by money, so it might require you to conduct this thought experiment another way. You might ponder fictitious scenarios, like would it be worth:
a) my dog getting run over?
b) the football team having dreadful - even winless - year?
c) remaining single for the next 3 years?
d) totaling my car?
e) becoming a vegetarian and/or giving up alcohol the rest of my life (that might require multiple NCs)?
f) spending a month is solitary confinement
g) losing my job / getting transferred to Toledo
h) losing my most prized possession, ___________
Or perhaps you'd like to offer another entry. But answer the question - not absurdly - how much is it worth to you?
For me that check would need to be at least $10,000 to even start thinking about it. I was 6 in 1986 and I've been waiting a long time. Plus I'd get to enjoy it the rest of my life.
