Admittedly, I am not a particularly optimistic fan. If Rutherford is keeping score at home (and he may be for all I know) I would have -5,000 Card Chronicle points for once advocating in a fan post that we cut ties with Pitino after the Providence blowout in the winter of 2012. As you may recall, things have changed a bit since then around the Louisville basketball program. However, I have had serious reservations about the outlook for this season for a while now, and Sunday made me think my concerns are not that unrealistic. I love Russ; you love Russ; we all love Russ. But is there such a thing as too much Russ? Siva was such a strong leader that he did not have a problem going away from Russ when he was shooting too much last year. I don’t know if the same can be said for Chris Jones, at least at this point in the season. If anything, I’m afraid that the two of them are going to develop a tendency to force things at the expense of the rest of the team. Russ Smith and Chris Jones took twice the amount of shots as the rest of the team combined yesterday. That is a horrifying statistic, especially in light of the assist total between the two. We have an excellent post player in Chane, who is increasingly reduced to a glorified rebounder. We have an explosive wing in Wayne who is increasingly reduced to a spot-up shooter. I know yesterday was just one game. I know I am a pessimistic buffoon who should probably have his fan card taken away for doubting Rick Pitino two years ago. But, try as I might, I can’t shake the feeling that this season has the potential to be either a dumpster fire or a return to the final four. I really don’t see any in-between with this group. But if our guards don’t share the ball, I worry it will result in resentment among the rest of the team. That being said, would someone tell me my fears are unfounded and that my Card Chronicle points are further reduced by an additional -1000? I would much rather be regarded as a moron amongst the Chronicloids than an accurate naysayer.
