The number this week is 25. Not Top 25, but the 25 teams who are either undefeated or have 1 loss and could be a threat to the national title. To be clear, there are currently 20 undefeated teams in the nation, and 5 teams with one loss in the SEC. (And I do realize that a couple of the teams (Fresno State and Northern Illinois) are no threat to the title. But I will leave them on the list until they lose. First let's take a look at the UNDEFEATED list:
ACC: Clemson, Florida State, Maryland, Miami
Big 12: Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Baylor
AAC: LOUISVILLE, Houston
Pac 12: Stanford, Oregon, Washington, UCLA
Big 10: Michigan, Ohio State, Northwestern
SEC: Alabama, Missouri
Mountain West: Fresno State
MAC: Northern Illinois
As to the one-loss SEC teams, they are Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, LSU, and Texas A&M.
At least 3 undefeated teams will go down this week, as Maryland travels to Florida State, Ohio State hosts Northwestern, and Washington heads over to Stanford.
Here's the entire schedule this week for these 25 teams...
UCLA at Utah
Georgia State at Alabama
Oregon at Colorado
Clemson at Syracuse
Ohio State at Northwestern
Washington at Stanford
Georgia at Tennessee
LOUISVILLE at Temple
TCU at Oklahoma
Kentucky at South Carolina
Georgia Tech at Miami
Maryland at Florida State
LSU at Mississippi State
West Virginia at Baylor
Arkansas at Florida
Minnesota at Michigan
Texas Tech at Kansas
Fresno State at Idaho
Northern Illinois at Kent State
Missouri at Vanderbilt
My UPSET SPECIALS this week:
Tennessee over Georgia
Washington over Stanford
Northwestern over Ohio State
Vanderbilt over Missouri
Now, where are our beloved CARDINALS likely to end up after their 59-7 romp at Temple?
Worst case scenario when CARDS win: The teams above them will all win, and Florida State will jump them, moving the CARDS to # 8 in the polls.
Best case scenario when CARDS win: Northwestern beats Ohio State, Georgia has a letdown and loses at Tennessee, Washington beats Stanford, and Maryland beats Florida State. This would jolt the CARDS to #4 in the polls.
Most likely scenario when CARDS win: Florida State holds off Maryland and jumps the CARDS. Either OSU, Georgia or Stanford loses, and the CARDS jump them, leaving the CARDS at # 7 this week.
Those are my thoughts about this week...and now it's your turn.
