Jamie Rhodes-US PRESSWIRE
Congratulations to Cardinal linemen Mario Benavides and Alex Kupper, who have each been selected to play in the 2013 NFLPA Collegiate Bowl.
Here's a chunk of the release:
The NFL Players Association is proud to announce that MARIO BENAVIDES and ALEX KUPPER of Louisville have committed to playing in the 2013 NFLPA Collegiate Bowl.
The Cardinals duo joins a growing roster of talented draft-eligible seniors competing in the all-star game on Saturday, January 19 at The Home Depot Center on the campus of California State University Dominguez Hills in Carson, Calif.
Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET, and the game will be televised live on ESPN2. ESPNU will also air live broadcasts from practices on Thursday, January 17.
Benavides, a center from Los Fresnos, Texas, is a four-year starter on offense for the Cardinals. He was named to the All-Big East First Team and was a finalist for the 2012 Rimington Trophy, an award presented annually to the outstanding collegiate offensive center.
Kupper is an offensive lineman from Louisville, Ky. who was named to the All-Big East Second Team. An anchor for offense, he played all three positions on the line in his senior campaign and was a semifinalist for the Burlsworth Trophy, which recognizes the top collegiate football walk-on.
Benavides and Kupper were captains for the 2013 Sugar Bowl and instrumental in Louisville's convincing upset of No. 3 Florida. The BCS Bowl game marked Kupper's 26th-straight start on offense and Benavides' 47th-career start and 23rd straight at center.
