Continued Success Lands U of L In Exclusive Group

John David Mercer-USA TODAY Sports

Last Wednesday's victory over Florida in the Sugar Bowl puts Louisville in an exclusive group of schools with multiple trips to the final four and multiple BCS bowl wins. Out of 120 institutions that have an FBS football program and Division 1 basketball, only three have managed to have this type of success in both sports.

Those schools would be Ohio State University, University of Florida, and your University of Louisville Cardinals.

The data goes back to 1998 when the BCS system was first implanted creating the BCS era. Louisville was a member of the Big East for the bowl victories and last year's Final Four and a member of Conference USA for the 2005 Final Four. Florida and Ohio St were in the SEC and Big Ten conferences respectively.

Final Fours:

Louisville (2005, 2012)

Florida (2000, 2006, 2007)

Ohio State (2007, 2012)*

BCS Bowl Wins:

Louisville (2007, 2013)

Florida (1999, 2002, 2007, 2009, 2010)

Ohio State (1999, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2010)*

Size:

Louisville (22, 249 Students)

Florida (49,589 Students)

Ohio State (56,867 Students)

* Ohio State also had a Final Four and a BCS victory vacated for various NCAA violations. As we do not condone cheating here on the Chron, they were not included above.
