It has been very difficult to resist posting a down in the mouth, aggravated, disgusted post about Saturday's loss to Georgetown, our third loss in a row. I got to watch the game albeit while getting ready to attend a wedding an hour's drive away in which I had a significant part in. As the seconds wound down and Siva's shot bricked, I had to turn off the TV and somehow focus my attention on that task at hand. It was difficult for me to say the least.
When I came home that night I told my wife not to turn on any of the ESPN Networks or the late local news. I didn't want to see the "low-lights" of Louisville or hear any commentary. Yesterday morning at church there was the expected "what's wrong with your Cardinals?" from my UK counterparts (understandably so). I just can't seem to get a grip on what's happened. Even Villanova taking down Syracuse does not make the loss to them any easier. Like many of you I'm asking, "What's wrong?"
We're in the final days of January . We have 11 more regular season games left. At the outset of the BE Conference schedule I looked at our record & thought: "We should be 16- 2 in the Big East, maybe 15- 3, and at the VERY worst, 14-4." I don't know what you guys think but my thoughts were these: We'd split with Syracuse & Notre Dame, and most likely lose at Georgetown (simply because of our history with them). That, I thought, would not only be doable, but probable. We are very- very good team despite our current status. I didn't see why this would be unreasonable- and it is still possible to a large extent.
Any one of us can comment, talk, rant, curse, complain...but what our team needs tonight is just simply to win! Whether by 1 point or 20: a win is a win is a win! I'm quite confident that they will win. There is no doubt about it. A streak will end tonight. For the second time this year I'll be in attendance for a men's basketball game. I am a perfect 14- 0 all time with Louisville and plan on making it 15- 0! I'll make the 159.7 mile (one way) drive to downtown Louisville ready to watch our team. I'm not giving up on them! Not now!
While it may look and feel like it the sky has not fallen yet. In all honesty, if we've got to have a stretch in the season like this I'm glad it's in January...NOT in March! I don't understand why everything is happening the way that it is and I certainly don't like experiencing what we're going through! But a streak will end tonight! The 3 game skid the Cards have hit will cease! I'll be rooting from Section 308, Row T, Seat 1!. We can still turn this thing around, we can right the ship. Let's not throw in the towel yet. Too much is at stake! Go Cards!!!
