The Cardinal Countdown...30 Days Until Kickoff

#30 Anthony Branch

6950663_medium

Class: RS Junior Ht/Wt: 5-10/182 Position: Cornerback Hometown: Louisville, KY (Product of DuPont Manual)

Louisville’s Take: (No Notes Provided)

Thoughts: Anthony has been around for a few years, although he didn’t see any action last season. We have 10 cornerbacks on the roster, but PT could be available depending upon the various sets offenses throw at us over the course of the year. Hell, I would have liked another corner last season whose sole responsibility was to lock down T.Y. Hilton at all times. AT ALL TIMES. I’m talking in the classroom, parking lot, bathroom, at his mom’s house…no holding back. Lock. Him. Down.

Anthony has a pretty tough namesake to follow here at UofL. I seem to remember a guy named Anthony "Deion" Branch that played here a few seasons ago. All-Conference, number hanging up in the stadium, Super Bowl MVP….no pressure #30, keep your head up. I’ll be interested to see if new Mr. Branch can get on the field and what he does with the opportunity.

Potential Nicknames: "Tony B", "Ant"

#30 Kamal Hogan

Class: RS Sophomore Ht/Wt: 6-0/209 Position: Safety Hometown: Montvale, NJ

Louisville’s Take: Contributor on special teams and saw spotted time in the backfield... will make the move to safety in the spring... big, physical performer who has the size and speed to add depth in the secondary.

Thoughts: "Hey brother. Whatcha gonna do, when Kamalmania runs wild on you?!"…Hogan knows best. Hogan’s Heroes….Sorry, they’re all out of my system now.

Kamal has been a portion of the special team’s personnel for the last two seasons. Appearing in twelve games both years, Kamal impressed the coaches enough with his skills to earn an opportunity at the safety position. While coming into the program as a running back, the position is so deep they wanted to get him on the field somehow outside of his special team’s prowess. While Hakeem will hold down the Strong Safety position most of the time, Kamel could get some looks when Hakeem needs a breather or if he is a better fit in the situation. Always good to see a kid put in work, earn some love from the coaches and get a chance to prove himself on the field. Good luck Kamal.

Potential Nicknames: "Killer Kam"
