#55 Mario Benavides
Class: RS Senior Ht/Wt: 6-4/301 Position: Center Hometown: Los Fresnos, Texas
Louisville’s Take: Mainstay on the offensive line... has only missed four games in his career, despite suffering a number of major injuries... has started 34 games in his career... has showed an ability to play through injuries ... has displayed tremendous leadership from the center position.
Thoughts: The core of the offensive line, Mario has been one of the few guys over the last couple years that everyone has had confidence in. The only negative associated with the guy is the difficulty he has had staying healthy. Starting the last ten games of the season last year, Mario is a lock for the starting role at center. ‘Cards TV’ caught up with Mario last week and he said he is feeling better than ever after dropping about 20lbs in the offseason, a move he said he should have made two years ago. We all know the importance of the O-line this year with Coach Watson really wanting to establish the run early and often. Mario’s play is key in that game plan. ‘Super Mario’ said the expectations have been raised this year, and after winning the Big East last season, there are only so many more things to accomplish. (i.e. Another Big East title, BCS Bowl, National Championship…maybe rescue Princess Peach if time allows) Mario has the size and skills to play at the next level, but I think this year will be a big factor in determining if that dream comes to fruition. Staying healthy and moving guys around like they’re rag dolls would be a good start.

Also, Mario was featured in a "Countdown" strikingly familiar to this one being put together by Athlon Sports for the entire college football season, representing 55 days till kickoff. I guess "anybody" can do a countdown nowadays? Leave it to the professionals, Athlon. I got this.
Potential Nicknames: "Super Mario", "Mario B"
