The Cardinal Countdown...38 days till kickoff

#38 Ryan Johnson

Class: RS Sophomore Ht/Wt: 5-11/175 Position: Punter Hometown: Louisville, KY (Product of DeSales)

Louisville’s Take: (No Notes Provided)

Thoughts: Ryan is a walk-on from last year, who will get an opportunity to compete this season for the starting role at punter. Ryan is actually a very talented athlete who played both sides of the ball while at DeSales including starting QB. He played some Cornerback for former coach Mark Sander (UofL grad) as well as assuming the specialist positions of kicker and punter from time to time.

So let me get this straight…our potential starting punter has speed to burn and he was a quarterback in high school? Coach Carter, sorry to interrupt, but how many times this season are we actually going to punt the ball rather than just faking it…?

Zero…..good to know.

Potential Nicknames: "Tricky", Colt" (DeSales)

#38 Thaddeus Franklin

Class: RS Sophomore Ht/Wt: 5-10/187 Position: Linebacker Hometown: Versailles, KY

Louisville’s Take: (No Notes Provided)

Thoughts: We are DEEP at linebacker. I know you all are tired of hearing it but I feel like we’ve got 5-6 guys who are very talented and may not get to see much of the field this year. Thaddeus is a walk-on from last year but I’ve heard good things about his work ethic and skills at the position. Even with the loss of Mike Privott, Thaddeus is still competing with the Browns (Keith, Preston, Daniel), Dawson, Burgess, Dixon and Rogers. The only advantage to the older guys is the lack of experience from the Freshman. I doubt Charlie throws anyone, with maybe the exception of Burgess or K. Brown, into the starting role early on. I like the guy, first of all because his name is Thaddeus….it just sounds kind of bad ass. Secondly, he has enough skill that even if he never steps foot on the field during the game; he will continue to push these other guys and make them that much better.

Potential Nicknames: "Thaddeus", "Thad"
