It is my opinion that Gorgui will be the X-Factor in the game. His mere presence down low will be immense. We all know his play and positioning the past 3 months is vastly improved from Dec 31. If he gets one or two quick blocks, it could scare UK from getting to the paint as much (which they are very good at). We need them to settle for jump shots – and keep someone practically hugging Miller and Lamb on the perimeter. I’m OK with allowing Jones, MKG, Davis, and Teague long jumpers – we just need them to stay away from the basket.
I also believe that Blackshear will get a lot of PT if Lamb and MKG begin to beat KK and C5 off the dribble. He’s longer and more athletic than those two. He’s not as effective offensively, but stopping UK on defense is more important than having a slightly better shooter on the floor. There also isn’t much to scout on Blackshear offensively, so if Pitino gives him a ‘semi’-green light to do some stuff on the offensive end, it could cause UK to wonder why they didn’t research him in the scouting reports.
