Headed into last year's Big East tournament, the cards were in a somewhat similar situation as this year. Sure, we were 12-6 opposed to 10-8, but we were coming off a dissapointing end to the regular season. Last year, we lost in Morgantown due to a Preston Knowles foul with under one second left. This year, we hit a slump, dropping three of our last four. In the 2011 tourney, we breezed though the quarterfinals against Marquette, just as we did Thursday night. We also met Notre Dame in the semifinals, beating them.
We had much confidence headed into the final. We ended up losing that one against Kemba Walker and his magic. I think that with that loss, all of our momentum was completely gone. There was no hype in recieving a top four seed and playing an in state team. I thought that we headed into the first round with no momentum, no swagger, and no expectations. Obviously that game didn't go as planned, but I'm not sure that anyone was completely shocked by that sequence.
This year we took care of business on Saturday night, getting revenge on game just two and a half weeks ago. We beat three teams that had defeated us in the regular season. This year, I think we have that momentum, we have that swagger, and now I think we have some expectations. Hopefully this year we can pull through.
Great Day to be a Cards Fan. Big East Champs!!!!
