Depaul Day II: Chicago Edition

Cards fans! I know many of you are attending the all important second coming of Depaul day, and many of you probably just wish you could. Here's an opportunity.

I live in Chicago and will be attending the game with two of my siblings and five of our native friends whom we have transformed into Cardinal basketball faithful. When I bought these tickets, I had a boyfriend and a friend who would never ditch a Louisville game for a volleyball tournament. However, things change. That's life.

So, I have two tickets in a lower corner that I bought for $51 each. I still have friends I'm shopping them around to, but also it could be an opportunity for some CC-er in Chicago to hang with a bunch of other Cards fans or something like that. I donnt know, I'm probably drunk right now.

So let me know if you're interested. Glad to negotiate with any non-creep (I could waver on that) Louisville fans.

Go Cards!

I'm pretty sure Bing meant

in the profile picture. Also, I will buy the ticket if you pick me up on your way to the game. I live in Louisville and won’t chip in for gas. Also, I require my own section of the car, so you should probably rent a limo or party bus. Serious offer.

Several reasons for all good Louisvillians to seriously consider driving up to Chicago for Depaul Day II.

1. It’s gives you an opportunity to truly embrace a second Depaul Day, which doesn’t happen every year.

2. It’s an easier drive than you think . I do it all the time to see all the good people back home and it can easily be done in 5-6 hours. The unmatched boredom of Indiana’s landscape is a constant incentive to speed up to get to your destination as soon as is humanly possible. (OK, maybe this isn’t that persuasive). My cousin’s boy friend drove up here and back two Sundays ago just to pick an old turntable — he was back in the friendly confines of Louisville by Sunday evening. If he can do it….

3. OK, so maybe driving was a disincentive, then take the easy one hour flight. No matter whether you fly into Midway or OHare, you will not need a car. You can take the CTA anywhere you need to go (airport to the city, the city to Allstate Arena, or anywhere else you want to go).

4. FW debut!?

5. Gorgui will inevitably do something Gorgui-esque. Are you really going to trust the second-rate camera man to truly capture Gorgui? To drive the point home, I am pretty sure that there is no video footage of rainbow Gorgui, but those people at the Yum that day carry in their hearts the image of Gorgui casually flicking the ball over his head on the way to the locker room.

6. UofL fans have dominated the crowd last few visits to Allstate Arena. Depaul basketball fans are dying breed. I haven’t looked recently, but would bet my manhood on the fact that there are still a slew of tickets remaining (and likely at very reasonable prices).

7. We have had a pretty mild winter in Chicago, so this is a great year to visit for Depaul Day. Chicago is perfect for two things: (a) visiting for a weekend; and (b) living here in your single twenties. Any of you can have (a), and if you are in your 20’s you can have a taste of (b). I do not recommend staying in Chicago much beyond your 20’s and certainly not to raise a family, but it is incredible if you limit it to (a) and (b).

8. Did I mention Gorgui will be there.

9. There are a few of us living up here that miss Louisville and its people more than we could have ever imagined when we left. So, for us, sitting in that arena and seeing the red and black, hearing the C-A-R-D-S chant, hearing the sounds of the familiar Louisville accents passing by, and I could go on and on — those things make us feel at home for a couple of wonderful hours. So, the more of you the better.

Ah! So well put.

Can’t wait to cheer the guys on.

In my attempts to get friends to come up here for the game, I've heard several people comment on the drive being too far.

That’s just not true, clearly. I regularly take a jaunt home for the weekend and if you leave at an off traffic hour, you can make it in under 5 hours. Tank and a half of gas there and back. and the so-right feeling of filling the All State arena like it is an extension of the Yum.

Depaul fans

I agree that Depaul fans are a dying breed, but they still have their head in the clouds. Last time I went to a Depaul/UofL game there, I actually overheard a conversation of Depaul fans talking about making a run to get Pitino to come coach Depaul. HA!

Uh Guys...

Don’t mean to rain on a parade & we’re playing well right now. But this is not going to be an easy game. In fact, if we don’t play well, and I mean well, we have a pretty good chance of losing. I don’t think we will but I wouldn’t say that we should look at this like DePaul days of the past. I know… I know… I ticked some of you off, but get over it! Go Cards!

UL has never, in program history, lost to Depaul

next, you’re going to suggest we viewed Arbor Day 2012 differently than arbor days of the past because trees are hard to plant.

This is a silly thing to say.

Even if it weren’t Depaul, why would it ever matter that it won’t be an easy game? People should still go.

by bythesidewalk on Feb 9, 2012 9:16 PM EST via Android app up reply actions

It does not matter. Depaul Day does not care.

Depaul Day knows not the meaning of the term loss.

Depaul Day didn’t care about the gnome or Preston’s injury last year. Depaul Day did not care about our slump earlier this season. We could start Hendo, Bullet, SVT, Marra and Rock on this Depaul Day, and it would not care!

Believe in Depaul Day.

Do your homework, man.

DePaul day is a thing around here, and you are not with it.

Uh...

I’ve done my homework Sohl…We have lost to DePaul before. We will win if we play the way we’re supposed to. Rest…put down your alcohol…

Nice to "meet you too"...

almost sent you an e-mail, but I’m too shy – and, well, it almost seems psycho/stalkerish.
If you’re ever going to be in the KC area (at least until I transfer to some other military installation) or Louisville area… Or I the Chicago area, maybe we could link-up.
