Boo Brewer Is Louisville's Leigh Anne Tuohy

Or...Tim McGraw? Yeah, I can't remember the dad's name.

Great story from my man, your man, our man, Pat Doney of WDRB.

Didn't think I could be a bigger Boo fan before this, but that is pretty tremendous.

I love this story. James Brewer is the first Cardinal I remember seeing play ball.

I remember my father having to explain to me why everyone was “booing” at a Cardinal. I got his senior day poster they handed out at the game. He’s in the poster posing with the other seniors and the Cardinal bird. Below his picture is a message to the fans. He had the best handwriting.

Wow.

Aside from being a great story, I had to comment because this is just messing with me … but in a cool way.

I don’t remember my first Louisville basketball game all that well. I was young (five? six maybe?), didn’t really understand the sport (only played pick-up games as a kid), or how to watch it. But I distinctly remember when everyone in the crowd let out a long loud BOOOOOOO when something good happened and so I was getting really confused. I asked my step-dad, don’t we do that when something bad happens? He laughed and explained to me that we do it special for Boo because of his name. So basically, not only was that my first game in Freedom Hall, but I’d even go so far as to say that James Brewer was the first thing that made me conscious about Louisville basketball. The game and the culture that goes along with (and certainly the part we play as fans) all became real for me for the first time. So basically, to my young mind, he was wearing the right uniform and getting obvious love from the fans which meant that I too looked up to him. I’m sure we all had those moments, and those players that helped us become fans. In this way, for me Louisville basketball started with “Boo.”

I have thought about Boo from time to time because of this. I never really knew who he was then, so it got easier to let it fade from my memory, but every now and then I’ll think of hearing BOOO at my first game and it is inevitable that I have to wonder, “so who WAS that guy we were booing?” Its pretty cool (and extremely serendipitous!) to get a little bit of mystery solved here today! There isn’t really much better than finding out that someone you looked up to way back when is still today deserving of your admiration.

Great Story!

As a Bardstown High graduate and someone very aware of the legend that Boo is in the Bardstown area, it is great to see this story getting attention. Go Tigers and Go Cards!!
