D. Smith and A. Wales
I have a different take on the local Louisville talent going to WKU: Both Smith and Wales said they were long time Cards fans, both had scholarship offers from U of L, both committed and both, when they found out that U of L had signed other players at the same position backed out of their commitments. That makes me wonder - did they think they were going to be handed a starting position without any competition? Very disappointing that they didn't step up to the competition at the program they said they were committed to joining.

Yep
The last thing this program needs is players who think they’re entitled to anything when they come in. For any reason. Every recruit should expect to have to bust his ass to win a starting position. That’s what happens at every elite program in the nation every year. Nobody goes to USC or Alabama expecting anything less. Strong seems to be building that same expectation into this program. I think that’s a big deal.
And then Pitino gets crap for not recruiting one-and-dones.
Go figure.

I see your point, but I don't think the two situations are analogous

Well there are by rule no one-and-dones in football
but there are prima donnas in both sports and I don’t want any of them.

I guess I was just referring to the fact that HCCS can afford to take this kind of stance more easily
just based purely on the amount of players that are on the field/team compared to basketball. Basketball, by nature, is a more individual sport than football.
Regardless, I agree with your sentiment. Give me the hard-working, hungry kid any day.

one and done's in B-Ball aren't necessarily prima donnas
Of course some are but others could be equated with doing an internship at a business for a year and then seeing who wants to hire them in the real business world. Just because some one is a one and done doesn’t mean he is a problem. It just means his immediate goal is the NBA and not an education.
F*** 'em
The train rolls on
And they’re in the way
Agreed
Kids think they’re entitled to that shit just because they’re from here? Have fun in the Sun Belt. It’s actually makes me kind of sad. WKU had a great season last year. They’ll probably start owning the sun belt now.

couldnt agree with you more
The fact of the matter is this Dom. Brown still has two years left so does wright, Lamb 3yrs and we cant forget about Perry.Wales probably seen that other commitment and said to himself that there is a good chance i wont be able to play. Unfoutunately playing time matters to recruits Josh Harvey Clemons said he liked us because there was a chance he could play early. And from the looks of it. Unless the football team encounters the basketball teams bad luck there wont be many opportunitexs for ppl to play early from here on out
One major difference here.
With Smith, he(rightly) assumed he wouldn’t be able to compete as a starting QB. In that position you typically have the hero, and the never-heard-of-him.
However the Wales situation makes no sense to me because teams frequently have multiple successful backs. They don’t normally even Russ through the same guy two plays in a row. Ever notice how a guy will rush for 10 yards every time he gets the ball, but they sit him after every run to keep him fresh? That means there are PLENTY of plays to go around. If he just wanted to be the only big time running back of the class, well he’s just being petty. He could’ve been very successful here, but now he’s off to WKU. I wish him luck, but it was his decision, not the Cardinal coaching staff.

I meant *rush* through the same guy
Russ is like air. He gets in everywhere! Lol

I don't see Wales as a BCS back
He is lighter than Vic Anderson who couldn’t stay healthy after his first year. And Wales already has shoulder issues which took several years for Vic to incur. And a running back with a bad shoulder, especially a light weight one, is at a huge disadvantage. I wish him well but I suspect he will have serious durability issues.
