2012 Big East Tournament Bracket Update

I find myself following Louisville's potential start time as I do its potential opponents. There are few things as cool as watching the Big East Tournament during the day, knowing the Cards are still in it and will be playing later that night.

2012 Big East Basketball Tournament bracket (as of February 21)

First Round, March 6
#16 DePaul vs. #9 Connecticut, noon, ESPN2
#13 Pittsburgh vs. #12 Rutgers, 2 p.m., ESPN2
#10 Seton Hall vs. #15 Providence, 7 p.m., ESPN U
#11 St. John's vs. #14 Villanova, 9 p.m., ESPNU

Second Round, March 7
#8 West Virginia vs. #16/9 winner, noon, ESPN
#5 South Florida vs. #13/12 winner, 2 p.m., ESPN
#7 Louisville vs. #10/15 winner, 7 p.m., ESPN
#6 Cincinnati vs. #11/14 winner, 9 p.m., ESPN

Quarterfinals, March 8
#1 Syracuse vs. #8/9/16 winner, noon, ESPN
#4 Georgetown vs. #5/12/13 winner, 2 p.m., ESPN
#2 Notre Dame vs. #7/10/15 winner, 7 p.m., ESPN
#3 Marquette vs. #6/11/14 winner, 9 p.m., ESPN

Semifinals, March 9
#1/8/9/16 winner vs. #4/5/12/13 winner, 7 p.m., ESPN
#2/7/10/15 winner vs. #3/6/11/14 winner, 9 p.m., ESPN

Final, March 10
Semifinal winners, 9 p.m., ESPN

NOTES:

--Cincinnati and Louisville will break the tie for the six seed on Thursday, but for now the Bearcats still own the tie-breaker because of their win over Notre Dame.

--Notre Dame earns the two seed over Marquette by virtue of the head-to-head tiebreaker.

--Georgetown beat South Florida, and thus gets the fourth double-bye.

--West Virginia (7-7) is a half-game ahead of Connecticut and Seton Hall (7-8) for the eight seed. UConn and SHU split their two season meetings, but the Huskies get the nine seed by virtue of their win over Notre Dame.

--Rutgers (4-10) has a half-game lead over Pittsburgh and Villanova (4-11) for the 12 seed. Pitt is the 13 because it owns the head-to-head tiebreaker with the Wildcats.

--DePaul and Providence have matching 2-13 records and will play later this week, but for now the Friars get the 15 seed because of their win over Louisville.

Hope we play Seton Hall in 2nd round. Definitely would have to redeem ourselves against Notre Dame.
Syracuse has a pretty easy set up.

Louisville potentially playing Cincinnati in the semis would be pretty nuts. I guess we’ll get a prequel of what would happen this Thursday night. The Bearcats make me nervous.

First day is really going to suck this year

Last year there were three tournament teams playing.

This year

Just the defending national champions with 3 lottery picks on its team are playing. Bo-ring.

I doubt it

They were bitching at each other again after the game. Think they sneak into the tournament and get bounced without much fight.

That's your argument?

I’m not pumped about Delaware State games because they won at the buzzer on consecutive nights.

Mostly joking

I think the up-and-down season, Calhoun saga and defending national champs angle makes them non-boring. But yeah, not playing the best basketball.

NYC

I’m actually going to be in NYC for work 3/6 – 3/8, toying with extending it another day for tourney. Will be rooting for seeding/matchups that provide me an actual opportunity to attend game more than anything else. That is biggest subplot of the rest of the season, will I get to watch us in the BET in person? I may start a blog devoted only to that subject.

I dread any 9pm games for us in the BE Tourney

I feel like at the beginning of our existence in the league any game at 9pm at MSG was almost always a loss. Obviously it has gotten better since then but they still scare me.

Playing Providence then Notre Dame would be preferrable

Syracuse and Georgetown are the only other teams that worry me. I think we’ll spank Marquette again if we played them.

are you kidding me? I would MUCH prefer Cuse... Gtown not so sure.

Marquette, Providence, and Cuse would be delicious. I wish to play 3 times.

I definitely want ND again more than Marquette again

Weird that Cincinnati’s draw is their 3 mirror opponents. I wonder if that’s ever happened before

this looks good now

I don’t see the Cards staying a 7 seed
