Nerlens Noel reclasses to 2012 ,could Louisville pick up a late recruit?
The latest news according to Dave Telep at ESPN is that Noel is reclassing into 2012 class. Does this make him a viable option for Pitino in this small class? Another big man on the roster would be nice. He has visited the Ville back in December. What are our chances of adding him to this years class? Is this years class only a one man class? Do we have scholarship room to add one more?

no schollys
No. UofL doesn’t have any more schollys to offer for next season. The 2 seniors (Chris Smith and Kuric) are both walk-ons. Swop is technically a RS Jr, and will be leaving after this year…Terry Rozier will be taking his scholly. Mark Jackson Jr. did transfer out after the fall semester, but he was a walk-on too. Anyone else that comes in next year (besides Rozier) will have to pay their own way.
UofL will have 3 schollys to offer for the 2013 signing class (the ones currently used by Siva, Buckles and SVT).
Buckles is redshirting next year. He'll finish up in 2014.
Still a possibility that SVT and Marra redshirt this year and get an extra year, too. So, it’s very possible we only have one scholly for the 2013 class OR we could have as many as 4 or 5 as a result of not giving redshirts, players transferring, or players jumping to the NBA.
Stout Out!
Dieng
They will have 4 to offer for 2013. Barring injury there is no way we will be able to Keep Dieng around for his senior season. I am honestly hoping at this point that he doesnt leave after this season.
Also, Buckles will more than likely redshirt next season since it will take over a year to recover (if he is able to recover) so he might still be on schloarship.
He's not leaving after this year.
Everything I’ve read and heard about him suggests he finds an education important. Of course he could pull a TJ or Samardo, but that seems doubtful.
by CardinalDude on Feb 2, 2012 10:30 AM EST up reply actions
OK, you're wrong.
Dieng will stay until he graduates. He is a student first and foremost. The only way he leaves after 3 years is if he graduates in three years and decides to go to grad school somewhere else.

wishful thinking
Besides the fact that we dont have the scholarship he has listed 9 schools he will be choosing from UL isnt one of them. From what I have read he will probably overtake Shabazz Muhammad for the #1 player in the country in the 2012 class.
Even if we did have a scholarship, no way anyone tries to compete for time with Beach Gorgs
He’s going to UK. It’s a perfect fit for him – Davis will be gone.

my bet
says he ends up at UCONN, hes a local product and UK already has a decent center locked in for next year
If Drummond stays, UConn has a pretty decent center locked in for next year too

Honestly, it's not that bad that he is not considering us
He is obviously one and done and I would rather have Gorgs anyways. But it is just depressing that If UK gets him, and it seems likely they might, they will have another class as good as this years. How do you even compete with that? Is this going to continue for another decade?
by LouisvilleSklardinalFAN02 on Feb 2, 2012 10:48 AM EST via mobile reply actions
I don't give half a shit about competing with them for recruiting class ranking.
I care about competing with them on the court, and we’re dong that. They beat us by what, six this year? With half our team injured or just returning from injuries? I’ll take it.

Really?
It would have been 11 if Russ doesnt make two of the most absurd threes ever within 7 seconds. If they get Noel and one other of the top guys they might have an even better class next year. I care about competing with them on the court as well, but if they haul in that class we will be underdogs again next year. And so we pull the upset and win, guess what we will be the underdog the year after as well, are you satisfied with being the underdog every year and us occasionally pulling an upset? Because that’s what we are looking at for the foreseeable future if this trend continues.
by LouisvilleSklardinalFAN02 on Feb 2, 2012 11:29 AM EST via mobile up reply actions
I'd rather be the underdog and win than be the favorite and lose.
"I am willing to donate to the charity that is working on the prevention of whatever the hell Dick Vitale has." - noobmaster
I agree
But they call it an upset for a reason – because it isn’t likely to happen. I wouldn’t care about being the underdog every year if we won all the time, but they have been favored for the last 3 years because they have been better… Because of their recruiting classes. Chances are if the other team is favored, and favored by a lot (which has been the case recently) then the odds are you are going to lose way more than you will win. I would love for us to upset UK the next 3 years in a row, but it’s not likely to happen if they keep bringing in these fantasy recruiting classes.

I wouldn't expect to ever win in Rupp (vs. UK). Beating them at the KFC Yum! is different.
by UL is my hot hot sex on Feb 2, 2012 12:08 PM EST up reply actions
Obviously its a hell of a lot easier to beat them at Yum
But it seems like for the last three years, and it would seem for the next few as well, regardless of where the game is played, in order for us to beat UK we would have to play our best game of the year and they would have to play poorly. I think there is a good chance we win next year, but doesn’t it bother you that it’s almost a toss up when it’s at Yum and it is almost a foregone conclusion that they will beat us when it’s at Rupp? That means that we might, if we play really well, win every other year. I love UofL, and I’m not trying to be a downer (don’t twist it into any of this fire Pitino garbage because that is just stupid) but I am not ok with having the opportunity to win every other game. And it all boils down to the fact that Cal is somehow (legal or illegal is irrelevant until something actually comes out) bringing in talent that is clearly a cut above what we are bringing in.

Yes, if _______ loses their top incoming recruit + two other role players by December
It is unlikely ________ (insert any team in the country) will beat a Calipari-recruited UK team in Rupp Arena.
by UL is my hot hot sex on Feb 2, 2012 12:32 PM EST up reply actions
Obviously it was unlikely for us to win this year...
Due to injuries. But if I read your previous post correctly, I’m pretty sure you said you would “never” expect to win in rupp against UK. And going off that it seems like you are saying our only chance to win is at home, and Im saying I’m not satisfied with only having a chance to beat them every other year.
by LouisvilleSklardinalFAN02 on Feb 2, 2012 12:38 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
my original point
was that they are killing us in recruiting. They are 47-0 in rupp since Calipari has started bringing in these absurd recruiting classes, and could very well go a lot longer before they lose. Im just saying that it sucks that we are not recruiting anywhere near their level right now. And sorry if you think the comparisons to UK are comical, and by no means is that how we should measure our program, but if you are saying you can ignore the success of a hated rival about an hour away when it is essentially thrown in everyones face almost daily, then you are not a real human being with real human emotions.
by LouisvilleSklardinalFAN02 on Feb 2, 2012 4:31 PM EST up reply actions
Not expecting to win doesn't mean I think U of L stands zero chance of winning
It’s not a foregone conclusion but it’s also foolish for any team to expect to win at Rupp. Hopefully that makes sense.
by UL is my hot hot sex on Feb 2, 2012 5:37 PM EST up reply actions
I'd rather be the underdog rather than wondering if today is the day the NCAA hammers our program for a record number of violations.
-Dustin
You do realize that none of his past violations were really recruiting?
I hate Cal as much as the next person, but it’s really weak to blame the fact that he has our recruited us by a mile on cheating.
by LouisvilleSklardinalFAN02 on Feb 2, 2012 12:29 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
WHAT?!
You’re drunk if you think we are competing with them on the court.
Next year
Siva, Fat Wayne (or Russ?), _ (FW if Russ plays the 2), Chane, Gorgui
If that group of players is playing well and as a team, we could blow anyone out of the water on any night.
Starting line up will be very strong, not so sure about the reserves
No Kuric, CSmith, Swop or Buckles
Price may be quite a drop off from Gorgui
by Carolina Cardinal on Feb 2, 2012 4:16 PM EST up reply actions
It actually might be better than this year
Marra, SVT, Nunez, Rozier, Ware(2nd year) seem better than Smith, swop, and bullett(if we can stay healthy)
We could easily have beaten them - in Rupp - this year, had we been healthy.

Still wouldn't have been favored to win though

no, but I was replying to someone who said I was drunk if I thought we were competitive

Couldn't you think we were competitive and still be drunk?
It can happen. Trust me.
by Carolina Cardinal on Feb 3, 2012 4:15 PM EST up reply actions
No way.
He wouldn’t get the minutes he would demand behind Gorgui. The logical thought would be UK, replacing Davis and giving Cal yet another top recruiting class. To me, this is kind of like the Marquis Teague situation; I’d rather have our seasoned veteran (Peyton:Gorgui) than an inexperienced rookie (Teague:Noel).
by Get_In_My_BELLY_ on Feb 2, 2012 11:16 AM EST reply actions
Pretty sure we'd make room for the #1 overall ranked recruit to play with and/or spell Gorgui & Chane
Gorgui and Chane are foul-prone as it is and Gorgui would be better served playing less than 38 mpg, IMO. Having Noel and Gorgui down low would be a defensive wet dream.
by UL is my hot hot sex on Feb 2, 2012 12:12 PM EST up reply actions
Wet dream for us. Nightmare for anyone else.
Might as well build a 15 foot wall around the basket. We’d have double the blocks of any other team in the nation. What sucks is that we can probably just forget about this, because getting him is VERY unlikely. That won’t stop me from following his recruiting though.
ALL HAIL

He is not even considering UL
according to the list he released yesterday. It appears few of the top players are listing UL.
This is what I'm saying
Theres no way we can CONSISTENTLY compete with UK with the way recruiting has panned out the last 3 years. Either we are going to have to start doing better, or they are going to have to start doing a lot worse.
by LouisvilleSklardinalFAN02 on Feb 2, 2012 12:26 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
Does anyone else?
The Calipari/UK comparisons on this board are comical somethimes.
Remember the Beef Bowl!
I wish a Nerlens Noel would come into the YUM!,
and get owned by Gorgui next year. If he doesn’t commit to UL he should head west, like California west
When was the last time...
Gorgui dominated someone of relevance?….cute to think he would though….Noel to Louisville? I think he probably wants a chance to make it to the next level…just sayin.
If he camt o UofL
would we cal him Never Nervous Nerlens?

I went to Tilton Prep School in NH
I went to Tilton Prep School in NH for my junior year before returning home to Ballard for my Senior year. I was a little Jewish kid from Louisville, which went over really well with the holier than though New Englander prep school hipsters. I was almost the starting point gaurd on the basketball team for the 98-99 season. I quit a few weeks in into practice to join the wrestling team (which was one of the best experiences of my life). I chose to join the wrestling team because someone from my team took it upon themselves to steal my basketball shoes in the locker room where I had left them (unlocked) after practice. They were never returned and it left a major sour taste in my mouth to know I would play with someone who was capable of such a thing. The other reason being we flat out Sucked. Anyways the wrestling team was the best decision I ever made. The experience traveling around New England and competing against schools and in tournaments was one that I will never forget. It was a defining moment in my life and not to brag, but I enjoyed a wildly successful first season as a wrestler. I had never wrestled in my life, but having the inner mighty mouse passion and fire coupled with being placed with the runner up state champion from VT the year before as my sparing partner in practice every day, made for a shorter learning curve than most.. Anyways, my how things have changed at Tilton. It is amazing to see Tilton is even on the and basketball are talked about in the same sentence. When I was there it was all about Hockey. (and probably still is) The level of talent that this kid Norlens plays with, is extreemly week. I can attest to this first hand. New England Prep School Basketball has to be some of the worst competition in the nation. I wouldn’t put a whole lot of stock into his #1 prospect status based on the talent he plays with. I am sure I would look pretty good playing in a league with a bunch of fourth graders, which is a pretty close comparison to the level of play in the New England Prep school league. I have seen the videos of the kid and he def has loads of talent and a lot of big time potential, but look at who he is surounded with.. Dont get me wrong, I would be ecstatic if Louisville could somehow land this kid. He has a solid game no matter where he is plating and his size is undeniable. I wish he came to play for the best basketball program on earth at Louisville. I think Pitino over most coaches, could mold this Norleans into a legitimate NBA prospect, but I think this kid might be in for a huge awakening when he steps into a prime time college spotlight, simply based on the competetion he would be coming from..
