Five-Star Point Guard Planning Louisville Visit

One of the 2013 players Rick Pitino and staff have spent the most time honing in on is five-star (Scout) point guard Tyler Ennis. It seems as though the St. Benedict Prep (N.J.) star is reciprocating the interest.

According to Adam Zagoria, Ennis is in the process of setting up official visits to both U of L and Arizona.

"I know my father is talking with Arizona about a visit, talking to Louisville about a visit, but all the other ones I'm not really sure about right now," Ennis said.

As for Arizona, Ennis said: "They have a good history with guards. They have a lot of guards that went pro. They have a good 2012 class, so that would be a good team to come into, you know a lot of talent there.

"And right now they only have one point guard next year, Josiah Turner, and they're not going to have any more point guards there, so they're a good fit for me."

Louisville is also in the mix.

"[Peyton] Siva is a junior now, so by the time I get there he'll be gone," Ennis said. "They have a lot of combos but they don't really have a pure point so that's what they're interested in me about."

Ennis attended Louisville's game at Seton Hall earlier this season.

The Fast Track Amphibian Water Cruiser is coming, so get on board or get to shore.

That's my submission for the basketball equivalent of the train tagline. I'm open to suggestions. I like amphibian water cruisers.

Rozier is 6'1 and long

not sure I’d necessarily call him small… but he’s not a “big” guard by any means to be a 2guard, so I guess you’re right in that regard

Yes, I was referring to him as being small for a 2 guard.

I mean, we’ve had Preston!, Russ, and Chris at the 2 spot – all are small – and we’ve struggled with lack of length there. Even Anton Gill is smallish for a 2 guard, but he’s only a junior. Fingers crossed he’s still growing.

Terry is more of a combo type. Kinda like Sosa, but much more of a passer.

But Siva was more of a scorer in high school too so I guess it depends on how he adapts.

to be honest

if you’re good in HS, you better be scoring, unless you play on an Oak Hill type of team which allows you 10-12 assists per game

Rozier really can shoot

the rock, from the clips I’ve seen. He has a pure stroke. I liked Sosa’s jumper a lot, but he was more of two-guard if you ask me (who played the point). It’s hard to say what defines a “pure” point guard. In an ideal world, I guess it means they (can obviously) make everyone better and pass and run the show and have an ability to score. Rondo is a pure point guard, to me. He’s can’t shoot it that great, but you love him running your team. Wayne Turner was that way at Kentucky. Siva’s as close to a ‘pure’ point guard we’ve had under Rick (outside of Bullet), but they’re probably harder to find than it looks, cause like you said…it’s easy for a lot of these kids to dominate in HS because of their athleticism alone.

Interested in joining a school which has loads of talent and a rep of sending guards to the NBA.

Mike, off-topic

I love your reporting, but I just read your top 5 COY candidates article and was surprised you included Calipari and not Mike Brey. Notre Dame is the ultimate come-from-nowhere shocker this year in the Big East. Brey has done a phenomenal job, and doesn’t even have Abromaitis. Calipari’s delivering wins, of course, but is that all that matters? No honors should accrue to a coach who deliberately runs the score up on everyone he plays. His treatment of the opposing team – as well as his own bench, who practice hard all year and deserve at least a couple of garbage minutes – ought to disqualify him for COY right out of the box IF (and it’s a big “if”) sportsmanship means anything at all anymore.

only problem I have with Brey

is his teams always seem to peak in early March. If he were to win this award, that would be his fourth in six years. All this, and he will have 2-4 NCAA record and one NIT appearance. I’d say JT3 has a shot, although at this point I’d give it to Boeheim. Recruiting should count for something.

If anything, other BE coaches need to stop placing so little faith in Brey’s teams.

All good points.

Yes, recruiting should cound for something – that’s part of the job. And I wouldn’t mind seeing Boeheim win – it could be his “I Finally Beat Ricky P” award. But I don’t think it matters how many times a coach has won it before. ( I would not have given it to Brey last year. I’d have given it to Rick).

I don’t think Calipari should win, though, despite his out of this world recruiting and despite his superlative job teaching team defense to this year’s crop of pros. The way he humiliates the already thoroughly vanquished just infuriates me. It’s unnecessary and cruel.

I hope he never sets foot onto the YUM! floor with a Louisville uniform. Why? Cause I'm praying that Rozier is the sleeper of this class.
  • I’m praying that he’ll be able to spell Peyton 5-10 minutes/ game next year.
  • I’m praying that he’ll be able to help the team next year, as a freshman,… in what I’m hoping is a year where we’re finally as good as advertized.
  • I’m hoping Rozier is an important part of a team that hangs around the top all year putting themselves in position for a 1 seed like Syracuse did this year.
  • The hopes for this year were so high, and we’ve seen things this year that tell us the hopes for next year shouldn’t be any lower, God willing we stay injury free.
  • If next year is the kind of year I hope we have, then Rozier will be the anointed one to take over for Siva in the year that follows and there’s no way a 5* PG comes in here to come off the bench. Sorry, but it just doesn’t work like that anymore.
  • If it even looks like there will be someone else at the point to take minutes from him, judjing by his comments about the situation at AZ, he’ll never sign with Louisville…. And I really hope for our sakes that by the time he’s looking at signing with someone Terry Rozier looks like he’s going to be a big part of the rotation as a Soph.

Rozier is the gem of this class.

He’s also the biggest bust, the best player, the worst player, the sleeper and any other superlitive. Mainly because he’s the ONLY player in this class! :P

Too worried about starting time early

What year is Q Snider from Ballard? I’ll take lesser but good local talent with heart any day.

by bradlm on Feb 15, 2012 5:32 PM EST reply actions

He is going to go to Syracuse

I checked out his twitter and he has tweets to and from Rakeem Christmas, using #CuseNation. Plus, Rozier will be there, and Snyder will be coming in and he was already rated as a top 10 PG in 2013

Coach Pitino has point guards lined up for quite a while.

There are some great forwards in 2013 so I can’t wait to see who his top targets are.

Big Guy

We REALLY need some big recruits.. Pitino obviously has no problem getting swingmen and combo guards but we haven’t had a dominant big man since good ol Dave Padgett.. and I wouldn’t say he was the most dominant big man in the country.. If we could snag someone in 2013 who can take over the game in the post, we might be in store for some real nice basketball.. But until then, it’s so hard to put us with the elite teams in the nation..
