Y'all are planning on making some lemonade out of the Orange aren't you??

I know doing anything to benefit us is considered sacreligious, but hey, I think you guys should enjoy blasting those folks from Syracuse right back to the East Coast…….

Felt like Gorgui rushed that one a little

Don’t mind him taking it, but he doesn’t need to rush it.

Has our spacing improved lately?

It doesnt look as crowded out there as it did early in the season. I know Coach used to harp on that a lot.

Cuse fan here

How bad are these refs. Every foul that benefited Syracuse I can see why Lville fans are mad and every foul benefiting Louisville Cuse fans have a right to be mad. These guys are taking the game over. Obviously a connection to the scoreboard. Neither team can get in a rhythm with the whistle blown every second.

by Collin B on Feb 13, 2012 7:45 PM EST reply actions

Hanging in there

Syr is the real deal. We are not going to dominate, and are taking them out of their game.

by Fitzi_67 on Feb 13, 2012 7:53 PM EST via Android app reply actions

We will be ok.

Didn’t score a fg for ten minutes and we are winning. That will not happen in 2nd half.

by Wagzlite on Feb 13, 2012 7:54 PM EST reply actions

To be fair

I dont think it happens to Syracuse either. Both teams will come out better. I expect this game to be in the 60s

by Collin B on Feb 13, 2012 7:56 PM EST up reply actions

I think Russ sometimes makes up his mind to pass when he drives regardless of whether the pass is there or not.

Probably all the shit he gets for shooting all the time (which is often deserved), but you must take what is there. Don’t force it.

by Carolina Cardinal on Feb 13, 2012 8:03 PM EST up reply actions

Did anyone notice...

We have 1 steal and 0 blocks.

They have 5 steals and 2 blocks.

We CANT let them beat us at our own game. This also prevents transition points (which is what we are best at). Something needs to change here or we’re in trouble.

by FredoKY on Feb 13, 2012 8:00 PM EST reply actions

1 steal?

Doesn’t sound right. The one that stuck out most was Chane’s off the inbounds. There has to be at least another.

by Get_In_My_BELLY_ on Feb 13, 2012 8:02 PM EST up reply actions

Cuse leads the nation in steals

Louisville is 7th. Thats just as much their game as it is Lvilles

by Collin B on Feb 13, 2012 8:02 PM EST up reply actions

And a few others...

We need Gorgui to wake up.
We need Russ to quit turning the ball over.
We need Chane to get on that offensive glass.
We need Bullet to not be our backup at point.
We need Chris Smith to vocalize more so he can take more shots.
We need Wayne to drive the friggin ball and do his “thing.”

by FredoKY on Feb 13, 2012 8:08 PM EST up reply actions

Gorgui waking up is key

He really is dragging. Is he sick as well?

Not complaining about his effectiveness but why on Earth is he in the game?

by Get_In_My_BELLY_ on Feb 13, 2012 8:18 PM EST up reply actions

Threeeeeeeeeeeeeee Kuric, that's why.

Chris also had his most open look a min or two ago, but missed. Justice passes the ball well.

Also that dunk that Gorgui just missed on the bounce pass, that’s the kind of pass Russ just can’t make. Russ is a good player, but not a good PG.

We got this

It will be a different game once Siva’s back in. Pitino is coaching his ass of right now.

by Squidbones on Feb 13, 2012 8:21 PM EST reply actions

I appreciate preserving Siva in this spot

But the offense is Bullet playing catch with someone on the perimeter for 20 seconds. That’s not gonna work.

by doctorofdunk on Feb 13, 2012 8:21 PM EST reply actions

I hate this Burr guy

If Syracuse wins Ill be more then alright with Louisville fans blaming the refs for their lose. Same goes the other way. He completely is taking the game over. Changing a Big game. One that was supposed to be fun. This is no longer Syracuse vs Louisville. Its Burr vs Pitino and Boehiem. I swear they both did something dirty to his wife a while back.

by Aaron Baldwin on Feb 13, 2012 10:24 PM EST via Android app up reply actions

The only thing that really hurts about this...

is that it seemed like a huge portion of this game was us beating ourselves. There were certainly small stretches when Syracuse was beating us, however for the most part, Louisville lost largely to Louisville. It is kind of a cliche statement I guess, but seems to fit this one.

by Btowncard on Feb 13, 2012 9:04 PM EST reply actions

That is a brutal loss

Bad, bad offense in the final three minutes after that huge run.

by doctorofdunk on Feb 13, 2012 9:05 PM EST reply actions

free throws…Jim Burr…that is all

by SummerofGeorge on Feb 13, 2012 9:11 PM EST via Android app reply actions

Still don't get why Wayne didn't get some clock in second half

Hope he isn’t hurt, but if he’s not, it makes no sense. Kyle looked so much better with some rest against wvu.

by cardsinindy2010 on Feb 13, 2012 9:12 PM EST reply actions

If not for behanimal we lose this by a lot more. Kid is just doing it. Glad we have him

By the way no blackshear in second half. Not really surprised, pitino will say defense but kid is big and can get a shot off.

by Diehard Card on Feb 13, 2012 9:12 PM EST reply actions

I don't think you can put Wayne in there.

Sure he had a great game against WV but in his 6 minutes tonight he didn’t really do anything. Not blaming him for this at all, but I think Pitino was just going with the more experienced players at that point in the game…

"I like Bullet very much"

by uoflcards321 on Feb 13, 2012 9:16 PM EST up reply actions

If Wayne is going to be a valuable contributor in the postseason (which presumably is the reason he's not redshirting), then you HAVE to put him in there.

The guy needs experience in games like these. It is inexplicable that he sat on the bench throughout the second half in this game, especially after the WVU performance. He is clearly ready to contribute, he needs the experience, and Kyle needs a little rest now and then to keep his shooting legs fresh.

by cardsinindy2010 on Feb 13, 2012 9:37 PM EST up reply actions

Chane played awesome, no way we're in that game without him

But man, those two missed layups sting. If ever there was a time he should’ve used the slow motion pump fake…

by doctorofdunk on Feb 13, 2012 9:13 PM EST reply actions

Free Throws, GORGUI, AND RICK (NOT GIVING BLACKSHEAR SIGNIFICANT TIME!?) bullshit

im sorry but if we go out before the elite 8

after going out the last TWO years (esp with the talent we had last year) then there is a serious issue. im sorry but THIS IS LOUISVILLE. I realize Cuse was #2 but this doesnt bode well for March. Say what you will, I really dont give 2 shits, but just doesnt feel right for March. Our 7 wins were against the bottom 7 teams, not looking forward to the tourney

by LouisvilleSklardinalFAN02 on Feb 13, 2012 9:19 PM EST up reply actions

Hate hate hate hate, we just beat ourselves is all.

Hate

Let not this showing (AGAINST ONE OF THE BEST TEAMS IN THE COUNTRY) completely overshadow how much development has happened over the last few games. We still have the BE tourney. Its damn hard to talk about what will come in the NCAA since it isn’t all THAT close just yet. In terms of time, yeah its close, but there is a lot of basketball to be played between now and then.

And another thing...

Look… KYLE was off, PEYTON was off, and GORGUI was (a little) off… and by how many points did we lose? I feel the pain of this one just like you do, but just think about that fact alone for a minute. Those three guys are too big a part of this team to not be producing better, AND YET we lost by one point.

There is reason for optimism is all I am getting at.

We are running out of marquee games. UConn and Pitt spoiled that for us.

I think we MUST win 3 of the next four against Depaul, Cincy, Pitt, and USF before we travel to Syracuse and then the BET.

by Get_In_My_BELLY_ on Feb 13, 2012 9:15 PM EST reply actions

If we want a decent NCAA seed, yes.

Still a chance we slip to the 7-8 range if we don’t win those.

by cardsinindy2010 on Feb 13, 2012 9:18 PM EST up reply actions

Refs

What’s sad is that all this was in today’s referee rundown.

by Diehard Card on Feb 13, 2012 9:22 PM EST reply actions

On an optimistic note:

We played awfully, didnt shoot free throws, went on a 10 minute span without a field goal, sat Peyton most of the game for foul trouble, Jim Burr reffed, Gorgui played poorly (or not up to his usual standard)… and we still only lost to the #2 (possibly #1) team in the nation by one point.

Yes, it sucks and it hurts, we should have won, and I don’t want to leave the fetal position but we stayed with them and nobody would have ever said that a month ago, especially if you gave them our stats from tonight. I believe in this team and I think everyone agrees that we are starting to play to our potential. I don’t think there can ever be a “good loss” but this game will leave the team hungry (Fat Wayne excluded since he’s always hungry) and itching for a big win because they know they can do it.

Do it to it, Lars. Go Cards!

while this is true

i’m tired of consoling myself with this info after every loss. can we not say this for all of them except providence? that’s way too many times of beating ourselves.

by KCcards on Feb 13, 2012 9:29 PM EST up reply actions

Agreed - there are no moral victories at this point

We are fighting for a decent NCAA seed, which may very well determine whether we’re sent home on the first weekend again. This was a big opportunity lost.

by cardsinindy2010 on Feb 13, 2012 9:30 PM EST up reply actions

We were a 4 seed when we last made the final four.

We DEFINITELY should have been higher, that is not the point. I’ll give you that this was a big opportunity lost, but… so what? Just as long as we aren’t a 14, 15, or 16 seed, what do we care? As I have seen it, our tourney troubles haven’t been seeding.

by Btowncard on Feb 13, 2012 9:35 PM EST up reply actions

no doubt

and this tourney won’t be stacked with great teams. The main thing we want to do is avoid an 8 or 9 so we don’t have to play a 1 seed in the second round.

by Ellis from Compton on Feb 13, 2012 9:37 PM EST up reply actions

with no marquee wins thus far, it’s hard to envision us getting better than a 5 without winning the BET. even if we finish in top 25.

by KCcards on Feb 13, 2012 9:37 PM EST up reply actions

The point is that we are not on track for a seed as good as last year unless we only lose one more game and make it to the BET finals.

That is a tall order. And I would feel a lot better about our chances of making it out of the first round (let alone making a deep run) if we get a good seed. And damnit, this program badly needs to make it past the first weekend of the tournament this year. For morale and image purposes, we need it.

by cardsinindy2010 on Feb 13, 2012 9:40 PM EST up reply actions

It's nice to finally beat you guys

But I think you guys are overreacting saying you “needed this win”. You guys are fine. And do you really think you can take much away from that? Did you, at any point, feel like you were watching a basketball game with the ATROCIOUS calls both ways by Darth Burr and co.? I can’t think of one good call they made. Loose ball with a guy jumping straight up in the air? Foul! Fab waiting 10 seconds before shooting? Shooting foul!

Chill, guys. You get another shot at us in a few weeks, and you typically play better against us the second time around. I don’t think it was possible for you to get up to a 2 seed, but you can still EASILY get a 3 seed. This wasn’t a must win for anyone, just a chance for us to get that last monkey off our backs.

Also, it’s nice how I don’t have to wait a day to post here.

by cuse2012 on Feb 13, 2012 9:24 PM EST reply actions

The refs were awful, i'm so pissed at Burr right now. Bad on both sides of the ball. That last foul on Triche? Really? I'm going to the game on March 3 being that i'm from Rochester. Flying all the up from Florida with it.

Should be a battle. I actually thought the March game would be a definite loss for us. Senior day and revenge for losing the first game to us. Maybe the opposite will happen.

by Cardinals80 on Feb 13, 2012 9:27 PM EST up reply actions

My favorite was Burr not remembering who he was calling a foul on

How many times did Bilas and McDonough say “I’ve never seen that before” or “that looked like a (insert missed call)”? It seemed like every possession over the last half.

I went to the kitchen to get water and missed the Triche foul, but it sounds like that was the worst one of the night against us. I thought the foul on Scoop when he went to collect a pass TO HIM and Siva clotheslined himself into Scoop was the worst that I saw.

We have now lost to the #1 & #2 teams in the country by a COMBINED 8 points. If you would of told me after the Providence debacle that we would lose to Syracuse by 1 point, I would of said your smoking crack. I remember telling my wife after the Providence game that there is no way in hell I’ll even be near a TV for the Syracuse game. Good game, make your free throws, and the whole Jim Burr calling a foul and then having to check the monitor to see who it was on, well that’s going down in history.

I know it's been said 1001 times already,

but we left that game on the line….the Free Throw Line. This is the third loss that bad FT shooting allowed a breakdown down the stretch cost us the game. To summarize:

Syracuse- Lost by 1, missed 9 FT’s (57% on the night)
GTown- Lost by 3, missed 7 FT’s (59% on the night)
Notre Dame- Lost by 2 in Double OT, missed 10 FT’s (63% on the night)

Thank God

Lville is tough at home. No doubt about it. We’ve had to endure taunts since 2006 and rightfully so.

Cuse finally beat the fake Confederates. Rematch at the end of the year.

I wish I still had KFC on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. They shut it down. :-( Now I have to go to Grand Central to get it.

Fine

You’ll get your shot. I’m hoping for a 3rd matchup in the Garden as well.

i really just blame all of our damn walk-ons. ~

Well

After reading the posts from your fans from 2006 through present day, the answer is yes. You guys can tough it out though, no?

Um, who among us has been posting on the Cuse blog?

Because I have a hard time imagining most of the folks here doing that.

You don't seem to get that the people who frequent this site aren't necessarily the ones who frequent those sites

So if you want to go talk shit to them, that is really the place to do it. I seriously doubt anyone here was posting on your site when we were beating you 7 straight times.

Be a gracious winner.

On the rocks,

maybe not even that, depends how I feel that day.

Just not a fan of opposing fans who show up (bravely) to talk shit

Especially after squeaking out a 1-point win following 7 straight losses to us. You guys have a lot of catching up to do.

and no chance to do it.

they’ll be off watching their entire team foul out against Duke.

yeah i really can’t remember anyone else doing that besides the blue folks.

by KCcards on Feb 13, 2012 9:46 PM EST up reply actions

Hah thank you for that

I always enjoy just talking basketball. I love my Orange fan brothers but after 27 games we end up talking about the same thing every time. I enjoy the perspective of the other teams fans. No need to be annoying.. unless like I said.. you happen to be a Georgetown fan.

timeout

Shouldve called a timeout last possession when the play was breaking down

by jbwise on Feb 13, 2012 9:47 PM EST via mobile reply actions

Keep it in perspective

They lost by 1 to #2 that only has 1 loss on the year (and it’s late). Hit our FT’s and we win. That’s the only thing that should bother us coming off this (other than Burr, but what else is knew there).

I mean c'mon

Louisville is 7-1 in their last 8 meetings with Cuse, right? Even a blind pig finds an acorn now and then. And Boeheim’s uglier than any pig you’ve ever met.

Right. So why all the trash talk?

I have nothing against Cuse (except Devendorf, but he’s gone now). I really don’t get why a Cuse fan would show up to taunt here.

Great

So you’ve been waiting a long time for another one. Every team has a kryptonite partner pal. Lville happens to be it for Cuse. Congratulations.

Being Real. I agree with Whoever responded to me

again im pretty intoxicated. But if 3 clutch players dont show up at home that is VERY concering, Again. we could win out and win the BE tourney, But not with our best players playing like that, its concerning to see them play like that against big talent, BUT i still think this team is a disappointment if we dont make it to the elite 8. this team was supposed to be final 4 or bust, and if we arent elite 8 than this is an issue. WE ARE A GOOD TEAM, POTENTIALLY GREAT, but our elite talent didnt show v an elite opponent, which in my mind means we should do somewhat well in the tourney.

Also

Can you guys PLEASE go to the Big 12 (or bitchslap Notre Dame and come to the ACC with them)? I’m going to miss the Big East, but this thing needs to die now. And Rutgers can die with it.

Im not sure how you guys feel about Siva

I think hes your best player. Played like it tonight when he was in. But this game would have been so much better if him and Joseph didnt get in foul trouble. If Jim Burr is working our next game I am more then willing to take one for the team and get thrown out of the dome before tip off by throwing something heavy at Jim Burrs head. Fully worth it.

by Collin B on Feb 13, 2012 9:56 PM EST reply actions

We love Siva.

Thanks in advance for the Burr thing.

by Loouhvul on Feb 13, 2012 10:00 PM EST up reply actions

Siva did not cost us this game.

Chane, Gorgui, Kyle, and Swop cost us. They were completely oblivious to SU’s cuts. Every time drive and dish, pass it in from the wing, off a miss… They made I believe one three and one midrange jumper. If we defend half of those, that’s ten points less that Syracuse has.

This only hurts because

We shoulda beat them, and we STILL don’t have a marquee win. This caps us at the 5-6 range, unless we
1) Win at Syracuse
2) Make a run and beat a top 3 Big East team in the BET.
Only other way is Vandy, WVU, or another win getting ungodly hot. I wouldn’t mind a five (other than the five 12 curse) because I think it goes 12-4-12 At the worst. But a three is the best to hope for if everything goes right,

CRP's opening comment - feels the same way we do

“I am going to be short because it is late. It was a defensive battle and they came up with the plays in the end. I am very, very disappointed that we lost the game because last year the same thing happened. If you take both teams who are struggling with the other’s defense then we made some really bad mental plays and took ourselves out of the dribble penetration. We have handled their zone really well in the past couple years because we had multiple guys dribble penetrate. Tonight, we only had one able to do it and then he took himself out of the game. But, when it comes down to it, it is very simple, we didn’t make free throws —-that is what is so bothersome to me. Not that we didn’t lose to a good basketball team, but (shooting) 12 for 21 with the amount of time we spend on it is inexcusable. So I am very disappointed in the loss. It meant a lot for us to win all the home games. We didn’t get the job done.”

Bottom Line

I don’t understand why Pitino stopped with the overload to the weak side. He has done it his whole career. He creates 2v1 and 1v0 match ups vs the zone and couldn’t do it tonight.

Someone above posted it

But at least half our losses this year can be directly attributed to a lame FT%. It’s the difference between a 2-seed and a 5-seed.
