Is Kuric Going to Lose Playing Time?
I'll go on & say it so I'm not mistaken. In my humble opinion Kyle Kuric is our Most Valuable Player. When he's on- we're on. When he disappears (like against pUKe), we lose. He's the most explosive leaper, best 3 pt shooter (Kyle's Korner), and without a doubt the heart of our team. He's one of the leapingest white boys ever & his monster dunks are instant high- lights. But today we saw something very unexpected. Kyle did not start the second half! He scored plenty of points in the first half & his defensive effort was not bad at all. But he didn't begin on the floor during the second half. Now, I'm extremely happy we now have Wayne! I think's he's going to be the X-Factor for us in the final stretch of the season. But does he go in ahead of Kyle? Now I know that a win is a win no matter who plays and as long as we do that we shouldn't necessarily complain. I know that WB is a 3, like Kyle. But Kyle can also play the 4 or even the 2. Should we go with Siva, Kuric, Blackshear, Behanan, & Dieng? Bring in the Smtith Brothers Supply Company off the bench? I don't want to see less of Kyle. We only have him for 6 more regular season games and at least 2 post- season games. Keep Kyle! That's my opinion! What say ye?

Kyle losing playing time is a good thing
Pitino overplays him. (And this is not a bashing of pitino, it is a legitimate criticism) He is not the type of guy that can effectively play 38+ minutes like he has been
Kuric is not a T-Will or a Reece Gaines. He needs a breather every now and then.
He does his best when he plays 28-32 minutes.
Can't agree
He’s our leading scorer, and has been effective late in games even when playing 38-40 minutes. He’s our best FT shooter, second leading 3PFG shooter, and has the best overall FG% among our guards. He may play a little less, but should still see 34+ minutes per game.
What WB gives us is another option when Kyle is off his game.

Hard to argue that there is a direct correlation between how Kyle plays and how the team plays.
When he is on, we are very good.

I agree
Kyle seems more effective when he gets a rest here and there and comes into the game fresh. Why wouldn’t he be? He might not be terrible playing 30+ minutes a game, but I am fine with him splitting up time with a few others.
Check out his stats. He doesn’t seem to contribute a lot more with a little bit more extra time.

Mmm...I have to disagree.
There have been many games over the past 2 years that his PT made the difference for us. I agree that he’s not T- Will or Gaines. But I do think he is such a level player that he gives you things that only his style can give you. His rebound with 2 bigger UConn players the other night; the rebound against ND in the BE semi’s last year that he should not have gotten, but simply willed himself to get it. I think we’re our best when he’s in the picture and producing.
Im all for subbing the fatty
in for Kuric. Fresh legs lead to more blocks, steals, and a better shooting percentage. Kuric is already a good shooter. No telling what may happen if he doesnt have to play every single minute of the game. I dont anticipate Kuric getting pulled from the starting lineup, but I do see him getting subbed more frequently.
Heck there is even the possibility of playing them together and using Fatty as a sub for Chris Smith

Personally, I like your last sentence the best.
I feel that that may be a better option for us. Kyle just gives you the heart & soul of a guy who has spent the last 4 years of his life putting on that uniform. I know CS5 is a 5th year senior, but he’s only been here 2 years. I love him & think he’s been a huge player for us. Just don’t take Kyle off too much!
True True
Kyle has the grit of a senior who is playing for the school not his NBA prospects. Hard to beat that!!!
The good thing about Fatty is that I really think he can play several positions. With some additional time and conditioning I think he could possibly even fill in for Russ at the 2.
FWF!!!!

fresh legs
As long as KK gets 30 minutes or a little more I’m fine with his not playing 38. Especially if we have two games in three days or even back to back like in the BE tourney.
He Did Plenty of Damage
playing 25 minutes. This is great with healthy bodies. Rick’s system wasn’t designed for guys to play 38-40 minutes a game. Russ had 16 points in 16 minutes. Quality minutes in the Pitino system. Spurtability. Wear them out. Shine in the closing 10 minutes. Saturday we saw what we’ve long been waiting for. Wayne is the real deal, Siva is healthy and we’re rolling. Bring on the Orange.

Smaller Line-Up
We could potentially use a four guard line up at various points of the game with siva kuric c.smith and blackshear along with either gorgui or the behanimal, villinova several years ago was very effective especially in the tournament with this, 3 guys on the floor at a time that stretch the defense to the pereimeter with siva directing the traffic, then leaving either gorgui or behanan in the paint to rebound or get their one-on-one touches in the paint, it would def. speed the game up and our press defense would be nasty! Hopefully we see this line-up sometime before the tourn.

A 4 guard offense can be very effective but must be accompanied by a couple of things
1. very up-tempo offense (run, run, run) to wear the opponent down
2. absolutely need to block out on defense, This small lineup will get killed on the boards if you let the opponents get position underneath. And we tend to have problems with being badly outrebounded anyway.

There reall is no wrong answer here everyone has a good point!!
fresh legs do count for something especially if we decide to press we wear down opponets kyle minutes going down wouldnt be a bad thing at all. No Kyle is not T-will or Gaines. But he is a vital piece of our puzzle. What i think it just depends on the kids effort at the time. If your not going to give it your all if your not going to make all the plays defensively offensiely on the glass then you probably wont play. I think Wayne starting the second half was probably a testiment to that. Kyle didnt have one rebound in the first half so he went with Blackshear. What ever line up works for us will be the line up thats in the game. And i think with all the healthy bodies were getting. We can do a lot more than what we’ve showed up to this point. Still want to see more of Angel though. #TEAM PLAY NUNEZ
Go cards
Fresh legs help everyone
No matter how good/valuable a player is, he is likely to be more effective playing 30-34 minutes as opposed to 38-40 minutes. The question is what you lose when you bring in his backup — for most of this season, we were better off playing Kyle essentially the entire game, because his dropoff in effectiveness due to fatigue was outweighed by the dropoff in production that resulted from subbing for him. That should no longer be the case, and I expect to see Kyle rejuvenated by getting a few minutes to rest every night.

Peyton, Wayne, Kyle, Chane, Gorgui?
Wayne was listed as a SG/SF coming out of high school, so I’m fairly confident he’ll be able to play the 2 well (once he gets in tip-top basketball shape).
Also, replace “Kyle” with “Luke” and I think you’ve got next year’s starting line-up.
I’m very excited. You should be too.
only question is
where does russ fit in? hard to see him not starting next year, but maybe he is first off the bench. however, i think it’ll be siva/russ/wayne/chane/gorgui, with hancock coming off the bench early.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Russ start next year.
But I think he’d be awesome as a “spark-plug off the bench” guy, as he’s been this season. It’ll make opposing teams have to stay strong on defense throughout the entire game and that should help wear them out.
I bleed red and black. I poop blue.

What position(s) does Luke play?
Interesting – very clearly Gorgui & Behanimal starting inside, and Siva at the point. Presumably some combo of Russ, Hancock and Blackshear at the 2 and 3 (with Russ also backing up the 1 spot)?
Do we have any reliable backups? Or does that depend on development of current non-playing freshman – Price and Nunez, and the incoming freshman PG backup?

KSTK
That is all. (Hat tip to Leeroy Jenkins.)
It’s not about who starts, but who finishes. Kyle was in the game making plays when we needed him most. What a gritty win for the Cards though.
White Out. Syracuse. Leggooo!
Agreed!
And it was the starters on the floor at the end because they know the plays and know how to finish as a unit. I do believe that Kyle’s fresh legs contributed to his steal at the end, I am glad to see that we have such a problem as playing time to wonder about.

In the last 6 games..
Kuric averages 11.7 PPG when playing more than 35 minutes
When he plays 34 or less, he averages 16.
we wont lose minutes
He gains minutes of rest, which is crucial, if you didn’t notice, we had fresh legs the entire game yesterday

no way to pin...........
this down to a certain amount of playing time. each game brings different matchups that require different things. all this tells us is that we have more options that work. rick is going to read what is going on in-game and use what he thinks is getting it done. wayne is a versatile player and having that at our dispense makes us better. numbers set a bar for us to expect and they also start the conversation b/c they are an average, but by no means define what will work every game vs. any certain opponent. i doubt anyone would have thought that if you told us that gorgui would have 2pts, 6reb, and 0 blocks that we would have beaten wv in huntingdon. not sure if there is another team, other than maybe syracuse, that has as many changeable parts that contribute. and THAT has a lot to do with why UL is a dangerous team. if we get VT back, this team can be very good at year’s end. only glaring weakness right now is depth in the front court.
Agreed. I'm extremely happy where we are now...
But part of me can’t help but imagine where we’d be if Rak, SVT, and Mike were all healthy…we’d almost have too many good contributors (barring major injury problems, next year should be a lot of fun to watch).

I think
he should play less minutes through out the game. Wayne is more offensive and Kuric is too quiet. But, keep Kuric in for the final 5 minutes. He was very clutch in the WVU game. I say, play Kuric for 25-30 minutes. Rotate Wayne for him and C. Smith. Put Russ in when Siva needs a break.
