The WVU players didn’t act like it. Were the announcers wrong, or was WVU that sure that the King was going to sink them?

Yeah, I referenced that earlier.

The same thing happened on the previous 1 and 1 for Chris Smith. Nobody from either team was boxing out. That has to be on the refs. Before they hand the shooter the ball, aren’t they supposed to say either “One and one” or “Two shots”?

Sure, but we really need that marquee win. We still don't have that.

Of course if you look at the preseason top 25, we have three wins against the top 10.

Observations

1. What a weird series between these two teams. YET AGAIN, the team that shouldn’t win, wins (eg, Elite 8 game, Sosa game in NYC, mysterious ref review game and the Preston! foul game). Today, at least, I know what WVU fans have felt like after the last two years of stealing wins.

2. Here’s what I saw from Wayne Blackshear:
a. Great shooting (all the 3s)
b. Good finisher (very comfortable hitting the running layup; the last freshman I saw that comfortable finishing was Francisco Garcia in his first game in Conseco Fieldhouse vs. either Iowa or Purdue)
c. Excellent hands (That play in the corner where he just consumed the ball. The only other guys in a UofL uniform who could have made that play in the last 5 years were Behanan, Twill and Earl Clark).
d. Size (obvious)
e. Great, unselfish passing (fastbreak pass to Behanan who missed a bunny).
f. Defense (key may on the throw-in).

3. Good riddance to WVU. Think about it – in their last year, UofL wins in their house in both football and basketball.

4. Give WVU fans credit – I’ve never seen a fanbase violently boo the refs when ANY call is against their team. Most fans don’t violently boo against the refs if it was actually a foul — not the WVU fans. If ANY call is against them, they boo.

5. How funny was it seeing Klitchka kick one of his teammates out of their seat not once but TWICE at the end of the game. You can tell the first guy didn’t want to move and the second guy even argued with Klitchka. Funny thing was, the reason that Klitchka had to argue the second time was because the first guy snuck back into his old seat. Klitchka must be a real peach of a teammate.

6. How dumb is Klitchka? Gets a Technical by throwing the ball in the air and gets an earful from Huggins. Then he does the EXACT same thing.

7. On the plays where WVU hedges against Siva and bumps him, they called 0 hedge fouls on WVU and 1 charge on Siva. In reality, there should have been 0 charges on Siva and about 8 hedge fouls on WVU.

8. So Klitchka plays TERRIBLY against UofL his whole career and then can’t miss in his last game against us? That was like an exact replay of that Cam Thoroughman guy. Dude was a total liability his whole career, but somehow turned magical against UofL in his final game.

9. The foul disparity was outrageous. Usually, when a team draws the first several fouls in a half, the refs ALWAYS make up for it and even out the foul calls. Not here. Did anyone notice that nobody on either team moved while UofL was shooting their last two one-and-ones? UofL made both, but it would have been funny to see if they missed.

10. College basketball really annoys me sometimes. The fact that the WVU foul at the end of the game was not an intentional foul, yet they call "intentional fouls" in other times during a game is disgusting.

11. I’m not sure if anyone switched over to ESPNU during the game (Penn St. / Nebraska). The color display was so bad that I honestly think I watched the Tate George shot for UConn vs. Clemson in 1991 in higher definition.

good summary. i’ll disagree with the “team that shouldn’t win wins” thing though. In the first half, yeah that’s true. But that was when The Beard was making everything and they were hitting 3’s left and right. In the 2nd half with our press working and outscoring them by 10, I’d say we held our own.

We go 10-22 from 3, and that is a direct result of having FW on the floor.

We now have three very good 3-pt shooters with Kyle, cs5, and Wayne. Expect our team 3-pt percentage to improve, and expect the floor to really open up for drives by siva and Russ.

Our offense is going to be so much better.

i agree 100%.

I think our defense in general will get better. WB is long and athletic. We just got a glimpse of his potential today…. Plus kyle won’t have to play 35+ min a game anymore. Maybe I’m still caught in the moment, but Im starting to think the sky is the limit for this team.

With Wayne back, our biggest weakness is the post.

Without Gougui in there we take a big step backward. And a good team, especially a big physical one, will kill us inside with easy buckets, put backs and rebounds. I really wish we had a 5 star center coming in next year instead of a shooting guard.

Had to put on the Waylon Jennings greatest hits album during the second half.

Felt it was necessary to counteract all the John Denver fandom from the mountaineers .It just so happens that the ending coincided with the games end. I say we all need to thank Waylon Jennings FTW.

Seriously, though, being able to mix and match CS5, KSTK, and FW is huge. Very nice mix of players at the 2/3 now.

Is really the first time all year I’ve felt that we are talented enough to be a legit FF contender. I think the ceiling for this team is completely different now.

I have never had more fun watching an away game!

I was with two of my friends at the Buffalo Wild Wings in St. Matthews. Darrell Griffith was there for a raffle to win a dinner or something with Denny Crum (I didn’t have cash so I could not enter in the raffle). The last two minutes the restaurant was going crazy. I have season tickets and I high-fived more people there than at any of the home games. Awesome game, and it’s even better knowing we won with Gorgui not putting up his usual numbers. Great game. Go Cards! See you later WVU!
