So what is our football recruiting class ranked?
Watching ESPNU coverage today and they gave a break-down of every conference and ranked each team top to bottom. For the Big East they put Louisville at 1, Pitt 2, Rutgers 3. But they also had a national top 25, with Rutgers at 25 and no other Big East teams listed. In the SEC they had UK dead last at #14.
But over at Scout.com, Louisville comes in at 41, UK at 31, and West Virginia is the highest ranked Big East team at 27.
Rivals has Rutgers at 23 and Louisville at 39 with no mention of UK in their top 50.
So what's the deal? Where does this class rank? And I don't really care all that much. I know HCCS got who he wanted, did it the right way, and is building a program that will compete for a BCS bowl very soon. But it would be nice to have a true measure of where we fall, especially in the Big East.

The only true measure will be on the field.

Good post... because I have the same question.
I realize that it is difficult to rank high school players for several reasons, but the disparity seems ridiculous to somenoe like me that doesn’t follow recruiting, but is always interested in seeing how U of L stacks up against the rest of the country in every phase of the sport. Is there a site that provides something like a “Meta-Ranking” based on a weighted average from several sources?
Wasn't Petrino's best class like 43rd or something?
If so, I think we’re in great shape.

The problem with ranking the classes is each team has a different number of commits.
If yearly every team had 25 commits, no more or less, then it would be an easy comparison. On rivals right now our star average is higher than a lot of those ranked ahead of us. Those that are ranked higher are due to having more recruits in that class (i.e. 25 vs 23).
We have a very good class. Stars really don’t mean anything, there are plenty of 2 star high school recruits who are in the league and there are some former 5 star recruits that are not. It’s fun to talk about but in reality it means almost nothing. College football has so much more with the coaching staff making players better rather than just raw talent.

Eric Crawford hits the nail on the head
There is a huge diff in ranking basketball and football classes.
“Football recruiting, then, is a far different animal from basketball. In hoops, you can look at the top 10-20 players in the nation and 90 percent of those guys are going to be impact players somewhere. In football, take the top 100, and I bet you have 40-50 misses. They might or might not be anybody.”
