I read a lot of what Charlie had to say during his Sugar Bowl presser. I have to say it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. The kind you get when you wake up and drink some milk before you do anything else in the morning and you have a horrible combination of morning mouth and milk. Is that just me? Oh, well it sucks trust me. Anyways, I have been a huge Charlie supporter for his entire tenure here and have fallen in love with him just like the rest of you. His word is gospel. But what he said today just sit wrong with me for many different reasons.
Ever since Petrino bolted for the NFL there has been this intense paranoia spreading like a virus in the UofL fan base. Every year HCCS has stayed it seems as though the questions on his status as Louisville's head football coach doubles. If I was him, I would be sick of answering the same questions over and over again as well. Coaches aren't known to be the most well adjusted to constant skepticism of every word they say and they hear how their words are analyzed down to the commas and periods. However, today Coach took a very odd approach to answering this question stating that he would answer that question at the right time. Maybe in his mind if he says that he won't have to answer it again until after the bowl season, or maybe he is wanting to keep his options. Maybe he's already gone, who knows? But worrying and fretting about it aren't going to make the situation any better. It may, in fact, be giving him a slight push out the door like when someone nags you on whether you're going to clean the dishes or not. You will eventually get to the dishes and when someone is constantly on your back about it, makes you think about maybe making someone else do the dishes in the future. THE DISHES ARE GOING TO GET DONE, MOM! JEEZ!... Sorry, had a moment there. But seriously, does the guy have to give an official statement every day about whether he is staying or not? Have some self-esteem people!
Secondly, I have an ENORMOUS problem with his statement on the Card March. As a Louisville fan, I enjoy the Card March. I get to touch the demi-god Teddy Bridgewater for crying out loud! How awesome is that?! But Charlie does have a point about the March's numbers on senior day. It was pretty obvious how little people were there for it. But it was a game against UCONN and most of the people tailgating were probably hovered around their space heaters. What really got to me was the fact that I remember standing at Card March before the UK game, waiting patiently as well as harrassing UK fans that walked through the tunnel in the downpour for around a half hour only to hear that it was cancelled via Twitter because "the bus driver made a wrong turn". What? That really cooked my buscuits. And if I recall correctly, that's not the first time we as a fanbase have been stood up at the March. I feel like that was a little bit of the pot calling the kettle black on that one Charlie.
In the end, it was just another press conference in which Charlie got asked the same tired question and I believe he showed a little bit of frustration. But can you blame him? We've been acting like a crazy teenage girlfriend for the better portion of three years now and it is probably getting to the man. So let's all take a collective deep breathe and enjoy it while it lasts. Whether that be another month or another couple years and beyond. It's not like it's doing us any good anyways, but very well may be doing the opposite. Although he's not perfect, I still love HCCS as well as my Cards, and will support both as long as they are one and the same. I suggest you do the same. #L1C4
