Good afternoon fellow chronicloids. I want to begin by applauding everyone on the recent Bird Mask campaign. This is the creepiest/funniest/most awesomest trend in college sports right now and I desperately want to see it continue. In fact, I have heard several suggestions about potentially filling PJCS with silent, voided eyeball staring bird masks during some home football games. I want to say this idea is as spectacularly frightening as it is impractical.
While it is difficult to envision pulling this fearsome feat off at a home football game, much less for an entire 3 hours, it did get me to thinking....
If we couldn't pull it off for a 3-hour football game, our dedicated and eccentric student section DEFINITELY could during opponents' free throws at basketball games....
Think about this: Nerlens Noel steps to the line for his first free throws as a wildcat facing UL, bounces the ball a few times and looks up to see nothing but an entire section of inappropriately blank, beady-eyed cardinal heads staring back at him. They could even be occasionally bleating an aggravated squawk, pecking at their neighbors, cocking their heads into random and violent postures as birds are prone to do...
This is an incredibly terrifying notion to me if I am an opponent free-throw shooter, but this is also an hysterical concept as a fan of watching basketball games. If nothing else, this would guarantee a Sportscenter shout-out if not a Top-10 spot.
I do not have student tickets, but if I did, I would spread the word and encourage my fellow section-dwellers to pick up on this trend and start planning now. We still have over a month to get our game faces/masks and prepare for a cardinal mask coming out party against UK.
Please give this some thought and pass the word to anyone who will be at that game. The more birds the merrier...Long Live #cardinalbirdmask
