Louisville freshman Mangok Mathiang's eligibility appeal has been denied by the NCAA, meaning he must sit out the 2012-13 season.

The NCAA has denied the eligibility appeal of Louisville freshman center Mangok Mathiang.

The 6'10 native of Sudan was expected to redshirt the 2012-13 season anyway, and will have four years of eligibility remaining beginning in 2013-14.

The good news, the folks at U of L tell me, is that Mangok will still be allowed to practice with the team. Hopefully it also means that halftime Mangok shootarounds can continue. I enjoy them.

Mathiang participated and showed significant signs of promise in all three Red/White scrimmages. He also reportedly dressed as Gorgui Dieng for Halloween. I find both of those notes equally important.

A quick follow-up from U of L: while Chane Behanan won't play in Wednesday night's exhibition game against Bellarmine, the team is expected to be (unless something happens between now and then) "at full strength" for the season-opener against Manhattan on Sunday.
