Rick Pitino announced on Thursday that he has added a new walk-on for the 2012-13 season.
At most schools this wouldn't mean much. At Louisville it means there's a new person who we have to learn as much as possible about.
Your new Cardinal is Logan "Light Slime" Baumann, a 6'0 guard who led Ohio County to a 29-3 record last season. He averaged 17 points, four rebounds, two assists, and two steals per game as a senior, and was named the Third Region's Player of the Year.
Bumann was originally set to serve as a student manager for U of L this season, but recently received the Pitino promotion to full-blown player. He will wear Kyle Kuric's old No. 14 for the Cards this season.
"(Pitino) called me up and of course I'm freaking out,'" Baumann said during yesterday's Tipoff Luncheon. "I'm like, 'What could I have done?' All I do is wash the clothes. So coach sits me down and I'm kind of nervous shaking his hand. And he's like, 'Can you play?' And I tell him, 'You know, I played in high school and I was pretty good and I could shoot it a little bit.' And he said, 'Here's a jersey.' And I was like, 'This is getting serious quick.'"
That's pretty much every basketball dream I've ever had growing up...and this morning.
If the one picture that is attached to every online story in which he's ever mentioned is any indication, the kid loves the high dribble. I'm a high dribble man myself, Logan. Can't say I ever brought home any regional POY honors, but I think the 1995 Roger Burkman Camp Knockout Champ trophy stashed somewhere at my parent's house speaks for itself. We should play HORSE.
Baumann is on Twitter, but per standard basketball operating rules, has not tweeted recently. There's not much else to be found on Baumann outside of that fact that it appears he recently saw Taken 2 with his girlfriend. I hope those two enjoyed both one another's company and the comedic stylings of Liam Neeson.
Welcome to the squad, Light Slime.
