Mythical National Championship Game Open Thread
I'll be keeping alive my annual tradition of only watching the BCS title game through passing glances, but feel free to use this thread to discuss the rematch.
It's also the return of Big Monday, so...
Token.
We've got WVU/UConn at 7 and then Cincinnati/Georgetown at 9. Not a bad pair of second options.
Enjoy the evening.

I will watch, but not give ESPN or the BCS the satisfaction of ratings.
Will be watching a stream online for that purpose. It kinda makes sense?
The first time I saw this I was in the law library and could not control myself
I didn’t do that well in law school.

Is this secret video of a Cardinal team practice? "Damn it run through that screen Kyle!?"

I love Robert Goulet.
I should give up grad school and move to Vegas, grow a mustache and learn to sing. Cher doesn’t even know whats gonna hit her.
She has excellent taste.
Just make sure she doesn’t grow up to be her… her turn in the late 90’s scared us all.
Honestly
Honestly guys. Do you think in 2-3 years we could really be playing in this game?
Honestly.
Guys.
We'd need to get a big-time non-con opponent
I don’t even think that’s possible at this point.
by Mike Rutherford on Jan 9, 2012 8:05 PM EST up reply actions
Ohio State? I think it could be possible with Urban there...
Also – The Lantern (OSU’s student paper) had a thing on the pay hes getting… and the rest of the coaching staff…
We already have five scheduled non-con games for 2013, which means we'll have to drop one
Assuming we’re in the Big East and playing an 8-game league schedule. Already four scheduled for 2014, too. None exciting.

Contracts can be broken
Remember the year that we were dropped by Auburn (maybe someone else) back in about 2004 and had to scramble to schedule a creampuff?
we played osu three years straight
losing the last one by one going for two for the win

Big 12
If we end up in the Big 12 for the ‘13 season, then that won’t be an issue.
If we are in the SMU/ECU/San Jose State Big East, then we could play Green Bay and we wouldn’t get in BCS Championship game.
How would decide the home and away team?
If on a neutral site, what fan base could afford to travel to let’s say New Orleans for the first game, and if you advance Tempe, AZ for the championship.
I'll save you the trouble of laying those reasons out and just say I disagree
by Mike Rutherford on Jan 9, 2012 8:15 PM EST up reply actions
I can write a post about it
At least it would be different from the exact same fan post written 50 times in a row
The sport just isn't that much different than every other team sport in the world
by Mike Rutherford on Jan 9, 2012 8:19 PM EST up reply actions
You think it's as easy and economical for football to travel 3 or 4 times in a month like basketball does
I don't think teams would have any trouble selling their allotment of tickets
for a national quarterfinal, semifinal or final, no.

Give me 3 interns
A whiteboard and southwest.com and I can come up with a playoff system that is 1,000 times better than the current system and maybe even 10% better than March Madness.
Thoughts on UConn-WVU
1) WVU is much better than I expected.
2) I would like to see Russ should start in our backcourt alongside Peyton, with CS5 backing up Kyle. We need more dynamic playmakers on the floor at one time (like UConn with Boatright and Napier).
3) We could also take a page from UConn’s book by running some of their Lamb sets for Kuric. No, Kyle’s not as good as Lamb, but some of those sets would get him open looks.
BE hoops > SEC football
At least for me.

They look like they're beating Uconn the same way they beat us last year.

I'm rooting for 'Bama to win 9-6
If that doesn’t happen, then whatever will infuriate people the next most.
by Mike Rutherford on Jan 9, 2012 8:27 PM EST up reply actions
BCS is going to throw a huge curveball,
and award the BCS National Championship to Oklahoma St if Alabama wins
Only 4 starters on Bamas Defense are from outside Alabama
Is Alabama really producing that kind of talent or is Nick Saban that good?
Really weird
Not only did he blow it, but he vehemently held his ground when another official tried to overturn the call.
Spread on the game opened at five. Can we get a bank statement on this guy?
by Mike Rutherford on Jan 9, 2012 9:09 PM EST up reply actions
Big East refs really suck
Between the missed fould on WVU and the completely botched out-of-bounds call when UConn last touched it, I suppose they’re even. But the officials are just awful, as usual.
I just don't understand how they can call ticky tacky light touch fouls.
But don’t call fouls when players get knocked all over the floor.
I agree. Just be consistent
You cant change the way you call fouls in the last minute of the game. Because if you think you are not going to blow the whistle and affect the games ending, you are mistaken.
And had a picture taken with a baby

He recruited Avery Johnson (not the short bball player)
But a badass wide receiver. Not that we are lacking in that department but it would be awesome if he flipped to UL and follow his recruiter
Bad officiating in the Big East?
Well, that’s typical.

I cannot imagine anything more boring than this BCS title game
The college football postseason just blows.
Chip Kelly:
“I just vomited. I’m going to go slit my wrists and kill a virgin in the name of offense.”
Of course this begs the question
if a defensive game can be so defensive that it is, well, offensive.
Gene Chizik:
“Hey guys, we played this game last year! Remember me? I had Cam Newton! Guys! Hey, guys, over here!”
Haha. Announcers just said they wished they were privy to the LSU offensive brain trust's thinking.
They probably don’t know it’s Krag.

Just heard a chant outside my apartment:
" Eh-us E Say, YAAAAYUUUH." I’m not going to take a guess at what his favorite basketball team is. I really can’t even phonetically describe how he said it. Tried my best.
by James Sutherland on Jan 9, 2012 10:40 PM EST reply actions
They are playing Jefferson because he is more athletic than Lee...
but he’s still nowhere close to Alabama’s defensive athleticism…so where’s the advantage? He has more fumbled snaps than good plays
So has anything else been said about Ware's dad's tweet about "Silva"?
That was seriously disturbing
My guess is that if Ware's dad watches so little U of L basketball that he thinks Peyton's name is "Silva", He's probably not a very supportive dad, and an even dumber individual.

Sometimes Mick Cronin looks like a great basketball coach, and sometimes he looks terrible. Cinci has got to be the most volatile team the past 3 or so years. This is a good game though.
by James Sutherland on Jan 9, 2012 10:56 PM EST reply actions
I've wondered whether he would be considered a candidate when CRP moves on
I know that he hasn’t set the world on fire at Cincy, but I wonder what a young, hungry guy like that could do in recruiting without our facilities and fanbase.
by cardsinindy2010 on Jan 9, 2012 11:16 PM EST up reply actions
I wouldn't put him on the short list, but I don't feel that strongly about it
My general preference for our next coach would be a young, but not completely green, coach with something to prove. Cronin fits into that general category, but there are others who also qualify that I would place in front of him.

by James Sutherland on Jan 9, 2012 11:04 PM EST reply actions
This game sucks
And it’s ultimately going to decide nothing. A non-SEC champion beating the SEC champion it already lost to to become one of five one-loss teams.

you guys think our young ones could keep it together
if they were to go on a long 6-0 or 7-0 start?
teams like Bama are acustomed to the stardom and big lights…
seeing how we got “distracted” at times from outside shizz i.e. video games
??

Not sure if the OC who produced a big goose egg last night is who we need in the Ville
Alabama’s D is stellar, but with the amount of talent on that LSU team, one would think a good OC could figure out how to drop more than 9 points of them in two games.
