Get ready for "3rd best team in the state" jokes. They're coming.
All in all not a bad drop, probably more indicative of how good we are than any ranking so far.

I think Murray would beat us right now

That's if we played them on a neutral floor

Yeah. If we played them on the road, we'd blow them out.
But at home, fugetaboutit.

I feel good
I think Wayne will be back soon and I think we’re going to start speeding up the pace. Throwing the ball down low and starting to play a little more NBA like. I dunno why i feel this but i do.
I like positivity
I hate to keep pounding this...
but Blackshear WILL NOT do anything for us this year. Pitino even said so. I’d rather him get healthy for real & come on next year with Luke Hancock. We might as well wipe that out of our minds. Blackshear will not be a factor this season. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to see him make me eat crow…just don’t think so.

^This. CRP has already tempered those expectations into the ground.
He’s not expecting much if anything at all out of him, and he’s been telling us the same thing. This way if we do get any kind of contribution from him it’s just bonus.
FYI, he employed the same tactic with last year’s team “Bridge Year” which (for right now) looks like a bridge to nowhere.

also says
He also says our offense is good and not the problem.

Exactly, this way when we score more than 50 points in regulation people feel good about it.
It’s kind of like with gas prices, they keep’em so high that we have virtually no expectation of them ever being low again.
Then, when they get close to $3.00/ gallon again everyone is doing back flips at how low the price of gasoline is.

That he's known about our offense being the problem since day 1.
by Remote Cardinal on Jan 9, 2012 5:26 PM EST up reply actions
And that jives with his "the offense is just fine" exactly how?
Jesus, and people wonder why some fans are so put off by Pitino. He may be a HOF coach but some of his comments are just plain bizarre.

I'm no Indiana fan, but that still makes no sense to me.
Sucks for them.

IU started the season unranked and sits at #7 now. No one in Bloomington is mad.

We Probably are the...
3rd best team in the state right now. I’m telling ya guys, we’re not very good right now. I’d almost wish we’d fall out of the top 25 “in the short term” until we can get our swagger. Might take the pressure off of us when we play lower ranked teams?
SHU!
I cant believe they are ranked. Good for Seton Hall. That should help our RPI come tourney time. At the rate we are playing now, we may need help getting into the tournament, I hope my first trip to Vegas for March madness isn’t ruined the first weekend.
Assuming we beat Seton Hall.

Don't count on that shit happening.

win or lose, their being ranked helps our RPI

On a related note
Man purses have completely dropped out of the rankings.
I wonder what ol’ Bobby is doing these days.
I like your style
Arburch02. Just because we are having a rough go lately doesn’t mean the season is lost and that it’s all doom and gloom. Coach Pitino is one of the best at what he does and we are going to win some big basketball games this year. Count on it

and yeah the seasons not lost. were not playing well now but wasn’t uconn 8-8 in the big east last year?

9-9, won the BET and got a 3 seed in the NCAAT
Marquette also went 9-9, lost to Louisville in the BET semifinals, got an 11 seed in the NCAAT, and beat Xavier & Syracuse to make the Sweet 16, where they lost to UNC.

What happened? Did we lose a game?
I thought Chance Bohannon said we were going undefeated?
by Rip Roaring Rock on Jan 9, 2012 2:46 PM EST reply actions
Chance Bohannon did say that, but unfortunately Chane Behanan was the one playing.
Apparently, it’s a Chane and we didn’t have a Chance. Sorry.

One thing I wish would happen,
is that we could somehow figure out how to run a baseline out-of-bounds play. Other teams do it. Non-destined-for-the-hall-of-fame coaches do it. Why can’t we?
In all honesty, in-game coaching strategy has never been one of CRP’s big assets. I remember in the NCAA finals when he was at UK against Michigan, they had three possessions in the final 38 seconds and never got a shot. Not a single shot. It’s one thing I really, really miss about the Denny Crum era — coming out of times out, we would usually get a good look. Didn’t always score, but always got a good look.
This, by the way, is an observation, not a blanket criticism. It’s easy to sit at home in the family room and design out-of-bounds plays, especially if you have a modicum of knowledge about the game. Far different getting things done in big-time basketball, I know. Nevertheless, I sure hope we get our ship righted; it’s always a really cold winter when we don’t.
theoldman
I'm with you. This shouldn't take more than 15 mins of CRP's time and 30 mins in practice to perfect.
But I’ll be honest. I’ve noticed A LOT of teams struggling with the under the basket baseline in-bounds this season. I’ve seen at least 5 other teams in the Top 25 struggle to get the ball in more than once in a single game.

Rick, if you're reading this,
CHANGE is NOT a four letter word! If you implement the change, you’ll not be known as a HOF coach who’s so stuck on himself and his “system” that you could not see the writing on the wall.
GO! CARDS!
BEAT!
PURDUE!
