Well i'm going to start with the positives of last nights game. first off we won. So no matter what a win is a win and thats always positive.Secondly the thing that everyone was worried about was offense. The good part about it i think we are starting to find our identity on offense. Pushing the ball and getting in the open court seems to really work for us. Was happy to see a slight re-emerence or chris and kyle. Gorgi simply looks great and if he keeps playing they way that he is playing and staying out of foul trouble he will be the best center in the big east and maybe in the country. I've seen alot of people play. And i like gorgi against alot of big men i've seen especially in the B.E. Last but certainly not least our defense everyone knows its our strength but it seemed to be even more stiffling than normal yesterday. Back to back shot clock violations. I mean we really know how to get after people. If anything i say that we do alot better in the tourny this year simply because of how deep we are side by side with how much of defensive intensity we bring when we turn it on.
Ok now for the not so great stuff. For starters i'm going with a starter. Peyton Siva. I'm not sure whats going on with him. But he had a remarkable year last year and i was expecting him to be a very bright spot for us. But he doesnt look ok. I dont know weather its mental, or physical but the look he has on the court isnt that of a B.E all american or even the typical Rick Pitino floor general. He looks more like a person who doesnt know what to do on the court, and trys to take his frustration out on the defensive end and ends up fouling. One thing is for sure the time can be great but in order for us to be a championship caliber team we need him to play better.
Half court offense is still stagnent. The inside out approach does work. But only against certain teams. There were lots of possesions were we throw it to teh post throw it out and then ball screen at the top drive kick out do it again until russ or siva drive and turn it over or throw up a crazy shot. The half court offense has got to improve. I cant't lie and say that it didnt look a little better because it did. In my last post i said that Pitino should be a man of his word and let us see the good things offensively our recruits could do. Half of that was done. Ware seen his highest amount of playing time this year. And i think he helps us out in a lot of ways. He drove the bal and made some really decent passes. I think he just needs to get comfortable and we will really be able to use him. Now all we need is Nunez to get some clock and were in business.
Coach says the offense is fine. He is a hall of fame coach i'm not. So i'm incline to beleive that we will be ok. I said in my last post we should see some changes in teh next 5 games. And the first game since the loss. Ware gets extended minutes. (one of my suggestions) so now over the next four lets see how many changes are made. Lets see if the offense can continue to gain some confidence. And who knows maybe Blackshear willb e available here in the next couple weeks. But i am excited and ready to see more progress
