There will be no "new" Rupp arena for years

There will be no "new" Rupp arena for years. I'm willing to bet A LOT of money on that.

Simple fact blocking it: The financial markets will not support a project like the Yum Center right now. And won't for years.

Finance guys who love the Cards know that we BARELY got the Yum Center financed just before the markets collapsed. The investment banking firm of Goldman Sachs that underwrote the financing for it, frankly almost went under themselves in that chaotic time.

We were lucky as hell.

And UK is not.... :-)

I have no idea the answer to this question so maybe you can clear this up for me

Could lexington even support such a facility? I know that they would always have the BBNut cases to fill the seats, but would there be enough interest from outside venues to add the additional support needed? The Yum center is able to have multiple concerts and events each year that i’m not sure even a world class facility in Lexington could draw.

Any thoughts

I can't speak to the entertainment $$ factor. But I'd say the best minds in Lexington (oxymoron) have crunched numbers since the Yum was built

and apparently they have come to conclusion that they didn’t want to reach— that a brand new place’s price tag just won’t fly

In a semi unrelated comment

I’m pissed Drake is going to Rupp arena for his tour this spring and not the YUM! CENTER!

needed to get that off my chest, lol

I went to one concert at Rupp in the seventies

It was an awful venue for music. You couldn’t hear shyte from the upper level, where I was sitting. But Lexington is close enough to Louisville and CIncinnati that if big acts appeared there – and weren’t also playing Louisville or Cincy – they could draw a good crowd.

they only drew fourteen thousand something at Freedom Hall. I thought that the city was split? I’m sure none of those people were from Lexington or other parts of the state right?
