Taquan Dean makes another Elite Eight
I'm really happy that he has done well in the Euro leagues. There are some really nice youtube vids of him scoring bunches from the three line. ( Wish he was here) He plays for the Sidigas Avellino Italian team. He signed up with them this yr and they made the EE. He's 28 now and can still drill it from anywhere on the floor. Still cannot believe he didnt catch on somewhere in the NBA.

Congrats Taquan!
I wish he could come back and spend some time with Russ Smith. In his 4 years, Taquan shot .401 from 3-pt range (that’s #4 on the school career list). In fact he is #1 and #2 for most 3’s in a season (his Jr and Sr year).
Steve Kerr
He could have been the Steve Kerr to Michael Jordon if the time frame had been right. Or John Paxton for that matter. The Bulls always had the three point shooter off the bench who would get left open because everyone was so concerned with Jordon. The problem for both of the those guys and also for Taquan is a lack of ability to get their own shot.
If you are an NBA scorer you have to be the perfectly sized round peg in the exact offense or you have to be able to score on your own. If you are the former you have to be lucky to end up the right place.
Sort of like “they throw bread in your jar and say what are you doing here.”
Awesome for Dean
But look at a guy like JJ Redick. He had about the same shooting skill as Dean but played for a highly ranked Duke team his SR year and got drafted very high. the high draft pick meant that they didn’t cut him right off the bat and let him ride the pine for about 3 years until he refined his game enough to get some regular run. Now he’s a quality contributer for a contender.
If we had a better season his senior year I think Dean could have had a similar career (kind like how Cisco has stuck around because he was a 1st round pick with a guaranteed contract). I think also, if the D League had been around back then Dean would have done what Jerry is doing right now with a much better chance of staying in the States for the long run.
IMO, the 2005-06 season crippled Dean's draft stock
Much like Brian Brohm’s final year at Louisville, Dean’s senior season really hurt his pro prospects. It was one of the worst Cards seasons under Rick Pitino. And, with most of Dean’s old teammates gone, he had to adopt a new chemistry with a bunch of freshmen and wasn’t able to showcase his ability as easily.
I remember watching the NBA draft that year and seeing Dean’s name on the probable 2nd round list and thinking had he left right after the Final Four he probably would’ve got a shot somewhere.
But, glad to see him doing well and making some $$$ playing the game he’s great at.
